Some threads really puzzle me

Iris, on January 5, 2013 at 9:34 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 83

A small rant.

The "newbies" ring posts that say, I'm looking for this place or this venue, I dont know where to look in my town, I need help finding this....

Anyone ever heard of google? I mean, if you're computer literate enough to create a profile on here & start a thread, you surely can navigate google searching. Or go back to the basics, Yellow/White pages.

For the record, I'm not talking about any brides on here, that we actually see wedding progress from. Sometimes we really do need help. I'm talking about the so called newbies, who dont give us any info about themselves, who only post things like what I mentioned above. Either you're spam, or you really should learn to use your resources better. Either way, I dont answer those posts.

This is all.

Google is one thing. I'm also sometimes wondering if anybody has any vendors or FSs?

Threads like how much does venue X cost? Uhm, how about asking them?!?

    Laugh. Send them this link:

    http://lmgtfy.com/?q=where+is+the+best+wedding+venue+in+my+town

Ah, forget it, the link won't work.

Ever used "let me google that for you?" It's pretty funny, I think you'd like it.

It's my favourite thing to do to people who ask obvious questions Smiley winking

Thank you! I ignore those ones. Ask me how to start looking for a venue, what to ask a potential venue, if theres any out of the box ideas for venues, if anyone has horror stories about non-professional photographers and how to get a better deal on one etc.

Don't ask me about your area, look in your phone book!

Mrs. S: or even internet explorer. Not that I'm trash talking, I just dont get it. We are in the wifi age, if you access a comp to get on here, well you know enough to search. And yea, the vendor posts too. Like how much is yours, I need to know how much mine should be. Umm if you want them for the venue, dont you think you should be asking them???

Woisey: omg that's great. Should I actually do that? There are a few that I see tonight that I could do that to. But dare I scare some newbies away with that?

I couldn't agree more. I don't mind answering questions but when it comes to venues, check the vendors on this site or google. What are the chances there is going to be a bride from your town on WW? I don't answer a ring avatar asking this question. I also don't get about asking about venues for a 2017 wedding.

I can totally get someone planning a DW and asking about venues.

I have to be honest, I've posted something similar when I first started here... but when you start a discussion, you select a location. So I assumed when I did that it would go to others in that location.

I learned that was not the fact and as much as I think those posts are funny and I usually ignore them (unless it is in my area) I was there. Shame. =P

Sarah & Bells: I dont think it's bad, like I said sometimes we really do need help. I just think it's hard to take it serious (atleast for me) when that's literally the first thing you post. I mean, some ladies have done "hi newbie here" "I'm new & need help" that kind of thing helps then post about what you're looking for. But I'm talking about the ones that dont say anything else except needing help finding a place. I assume these ones are spam, esp after what we just went thru

Woisey: I tried it, in a nicer way, on this thread.

@Sarah brings up a good point, lots of brides think that they are posting specifically to an area rather than ALL the boards. Still, sometimes I do feel like some posts want a free wedding planner rather than a step in the right direction. I mean, other than pointing you to the checklist and vendor search, not much else we can do.

@Bells, you had a good question -- you stated you weren't from Florida and wanted to know about actual beaches here, so a much more specific question than, say... "How much should a beach wedding cost?" So many follow up questions to something as simple as that. And you mentioned a company you were already looking at for us to reference. And you updated your avatar. You are off to a great start, young padawan.

Sarah....I totally get thinking you are posting in your area. It probably wasn't your first post either.

Bells....You asked about a destination wedding, there is no problemo with that kind of question.

With that funny google thingy I was seeing the problem of creating a sentence & it cutting it up into one word: where. If you click shorten, it allows for the whole sentence or whatever you create

OMG I've gone crazy, I'm now one of the "please change your avatar" posters lol.... I cant help it, & I find cynical humor in my rudeness. But after all that damn spam, I cant stand the rings. Ugh, they're no better than the salt N pepper shakers

And so often, they don't even give most of the necessary information. "Where would I find an inexpensive wedding venue?" is typical. Umm, let's see: For how many people? In what geographical area? How much money would you consider "inexpensive"? And if you are asking me for help, why are you making me dig the necessary information out of you?

Asking people to change the avatar is really not rude, MB :-)

The rude thing would be to ask them if they can read, given that the last sticky is in ALL CAPS: PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE NEW!"

I find it comical that so many people are on here, presumably voluntarily, to just complain about what others post or whether they have an avatar, as if that has any bearing on anything. I understand that people *should* be able to simply google something, but come on, ladies, we should be trying to help each other rather than bitch about each other. Madeleine Albright said, "There's a special place in hell for women who don't support other women."

That said, it seems like it would be inappropriate to join this thread without complaining like a catty little girl about something, so here goes: what's up with all of the poor writing? Apostrophe abuse: no apostrophes, misused apostrophes. Poor punctuation. No capitalization. No understanding of the difference between to and too or between it's and its or you're and your. Did people stop learning how to write before hitting 3rd grade?? I don't care what people are asking, but man do I judge people based on how they write their ask!
