Different ideas about Bachelor parties...

Archer_Bride2be, on September 6, 2013 at 9:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

So in my eyes a Bachelor/Stag party normally went like this; some kind of dinner/food, lots of drinking, maybe a stripper...and then some raffles (50/50), and gift baskets. I normally assumed the money made went to the groom and it was a nice party and a little money for the groom. Is this what most stags are like? Well FH is going to one next weekend but all they are doing is camping with the 4 of them (groom, 2 groomsmen, and a best woman), they are gonna have some beer and cook food...maybe do some hiking, and the best woman wants to go to wineries. Is it just me or does this sound like the best WOMAN is making this more into a bachelorette party? I'm not upset or anything, just wondering if you know of other stag parties like this?

My FH's group of buddies all do it. They make it a point to go camping once a year together and then again when one of them gets married. Not everyone is into strippers. Another buddy went to A/C but to just go restaurant hopping. They all gained so much weight over the weekend!

Yea I agree about the stripper part, the raffles and stuff was more what I was curious about, that seemed to be a common thing in alot of other stags I've heard about

I've seen different options, I think it just depends on the group of guys. I haven't known anyone that got a stripper. My BIL went to New Orleans, my cousin went to Ireland for his, FH went to one in Destin last year.

We are having a "cocks & hens" bachelor/bachelorette party, renting a party bus and all of friends and their dates are invited, we'll just drive around the city and bar hop.

    ^^ What OTW said.

FH's close friends all live in Boston, whereas we live in South Florida. He was trying his hardest to put together a last minute guys' thing for all of them to get together while they're here for the wedding. Guess what he wanted to do... Play a round of golf!

AndreaLily, I LOVE that idea! I'm actually thinking of doing some sort of after-party with the BP, like that.

I dont think that there is anything wrong with that bach party. My brother had been talking about taking the FH camping in the mountains and painballing. a few of the guys were excited about the camping but not FH. They are going to stay in a mountain house and still do the paintballing. If the guys arent into wineries... they will put a quick veto on that!

FH's friends always play golf then go to AC for their bachelor parties. I don't think a raffle is common in the states.

Where I'm at, I've never heard of doing raffles/gift baskets for a bachelor party...perhaps that's a regional thing?

Honestly, I don't even hear of bachelor parties involving strippers much anymore, other than perhaps a stereotype reference. Most of the ones I've heard about were more low key - maybe go bar hopping or rent a cabin or go play mini-golf/go carts, etc.

Not sure if FI will be doing that even, though his BM is flying in 2 days before the wedding and he plans on showing him around. *shrug*

I never heard of the raffle, but I think the bachelor party sounds normal for around here! It depends on what the groom likes, if he likes camping and wine, it sounds perfect for him.

Bachelor parties are what they make em to be. I'm pretty sure my FH will want to go camping out for a weekend or something like that.

Raffles are not something I have ever heard of. My FH went to Chicago for the weekend with friends. Trips seem to be the current thing with his group.

    Edited for grammar.

Yea none of the guys are really fans of wine, so FH went online and found some breweries in the area they may do instead Smiley winking

The winery thing is a little weird. I think the camping thing is pretty normal. H went to Atlantic City for his. Some of the guys went to a strip club, but most of them got drunk, gambled and watched sports.

See for me, most bachelor parties that I know of do end up at the strippers at the end of the night-at least DH's did as have numerous friends over the years.

Other bachelor parties that I know of have involved: camping for the weekend-mostly just hanging out and drinking, house boating, sporting events-hockey or football games, and even hunting.

Archer Bride, We recently moved to Central New York from the New England area, and learned about bachelor party raffles and Jack and Jill parties that raise money for the couple before the wedding. I think these are common in upstate NY, but I had definitely never heard of them in just a few states over!

I was a Best Woman last summer and we went to a concert and then a beer festival in Boston, followed by dinner at a whiskey bar. There were definitely no strippers involved! Smiley smile

    I've never heard of raffles...

Since all DH's groomsmen are scattered all over the place, they all decided to meet in Boston for Memorial Day weekend and spend the weekend playing mini golf and going to Sox games (best man worked for them so free tickets!). No strippers or raffles or gift baskets involved.

I'm assuming you're from Canada? I think raffles is common there, correct?

It definitely depends on each guy. I know FH is going to AC next weekend for his, but my brother just went to an O's game and then bars, some guys love camping, etc

I'm in Canada & the raffles are common at stag & does not bachelor parties. My FH is opting for either a camping/canoe trip or a beer tour.
