Did/will you wear two garters?

MRS_Mikec, on November 17, 2013 at 10:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

Read somewhere that I should wear two? One for FH to keep and one for the garter/bouquet toss. Do they go on the same leg? Opposite legs? I guess I never thought of this.

Wearing two garters on the same leg would be silly. Garters are undergarments that actually have (or had, pre panty-hose) a function: to hold up your stockings. People normally wore two, because they normally have two legs and two stockings to be held up.

Look at it this way: if you were wearing a bra for its prettiness, despite not needing the support, you wouldn't try to put both cups on the same breast. Putting both garters on the same leg is exactly as silly.

Your Bra analogy is funny, but makes sense. Thanks.

Yes, originally garters had the function of holding up your stockings....but most often they are used for tradition rather than function. i am not wearing stockings, sooo there is nothing to hold up. I will be wearing them on the same leg. the one i put on first (and therefore will be higher up) is my keepsake garter. the second and lower one will be the tossing garter.

We didn't do a garter toss. So one of the to garters went on NotFroofy's leg, and one went on mine. I'm pretty sure this was not as tough as trying to share the same bra. LOL

I will be wearing two but one on each leg because they are both the same width.

I had 2 garters one was custom made and the other store brought for our garter toss. I wore both on 1 leg and made sure the custom garter was worn on top of the other one. No problems there.

I've only seen them go on the same leg. Many times they come in a matching set, a big fancy one for FH and a smaller one to toss. I think of them kind of like the engagement ring and wedding bank. lol. You wear the toss one below the main one. Since they are no longer functional, you don't need one on each leg. Also, it would look silly to have two different ones on different legs.

I will be having two on the same leg. As Shannon said previous the one higher up will be the keepsake and the lower one will be the toss garter.

Just going to have one here, but I'm only doing that because we're not doing the garter/bouquet tosses. Smiley smile Otherwise, there would be two on one leg.

I'm will have two…the first I will wear for the ceremony and for the toss. The second one is special for him later on...I found a super cute white one on etsy with lilac ribbon, one of the wedding colors. The best part is it's an actual gun holster! He's a huge gun enthusiast and I plan on revealing it later in our wedding suite! He's gonna LOVE it. It's a Mr. & Mrs. Patmore (aka Smith) style twist he will definitely appreciate!

We pranked the guests at my first wedding. The first garter was my keepsake and he pulled it off and stretched it to "toss" then slipped it up his arm. Then he dove back under my dress for #2. Same leg mind you. My secret is that I put pictures on mine of the recently passed family members so my mom had help walking me down the isle. I still have my keepsake.
