Ceremony Venue: Modern or Traditional?

The choice of ceremony venue has been switched up too! Less couples are getting married in a place of worship (just 25%!), and more couples are choosing to say "I do" in gorgeous gardens and unique spaces! Did you choose a modern or traditional ceremony venue?

Definitely modern, I can’t imagine getting married in a church, it’s just not us. (Nothing against getting married in a church!)

Modern. Our ceremony and reception will both be at an estate. We fell in love with the venue at first sight.

I know baptist churches usually don't allow dancing since the denomination doesn't traditionally "believe" in dancing (although, people nowadays usually don't care). Some of them do allow you to have first dances, father/daugher, and mother/son dances, though. I've been a member of baptist churches my whole life, and being able to dance was the main reason I decided not to get married in a church.

Modern it will be at my venue which is at a golf club. I never pictured my self getting married at a church. I grew up catholic but never got my conformation, so I wouldn't be able to get married in a church anyway. FH isn't religious so that wouldn't mean anything to him.

I did go modern on my wedding venue even though I am traditional in a lot of ways. I wanted to have everything in one place. I didn’t want to travel in between point a to point b.

I've been a member of Baptist churches my whole life as well, but didn't learn about the dancing thing until a few months ago! Due to wanting to serve alcohol, I knew we wouldn't have the reception at a church. The reception venue is like a 2 minute drive from the church, so it's all good! We are getting married in a Methodist church though due to none of the Baptist churches around us have both a center aisle (my request) and pipe organ (FH's request). I've noticed it's usually one or the other. My grandfather, who is a Baptist preacher will do the ceremony though and the Methodist church is very welcoming of us doing the ceremony there as well as my grandfather doing the ceremony. I'm so glad it all worked out!

Traditional, we’re getting married in the Catholic Church I used to go to when I was little. A wedding mass was a must have for me and my FH didn’t have any problem with us having a religious ceremony... Outdoor ceremony would’ve been great but Catholic Church here don’t do weddings outside of the actual church building.

100% modern - neither FH nor I are religious in anyway. Our officiant is awesome and very respective of this! She will be keeping our ceremony under 30 minutes. We're getting married outdoors, on a farm

I'd prefer modern, but he wants traditional by getting married in a church, even though we don't go to church....either of us...we're both believers though

That’s awesome that your reception is so close! So glad the Methodist church is so welcoming and allowing your grandfather to do the ceremony there! I know some churches require their on-staff pastors to do the ceremony. I, actually, work for the UMC, and as a whole, they’re usually very welcoming. 😊

Modern. This was one of my most opinionated pieces of wedding planning, getting married in a venue rather than a church.

    I went traditional here!

My parents are both pastors so this was a fairly easy concession for me.Smiley shame Thankfully there was a gorgeous non-denominational chapel under a mile from our reception venue that was open to outside ministers!

Modern: it will be either held in an art museum gallery or a courthouse.
