Cash gift... Bridal shower

BetterThisTime, on September 13, 2016 at 3:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 155

If you are throwing someone a bridal shower, instead of a wedding registry, can you put something like, "monetary gifts preferred?"

If not, why?

No...that's called a fundraiser, not a bridal shower.

No. Asking for cash is rude and it defeats the purpose of having a shower (showering the couple with gifts).

I just really don't see the difference in the two. It's ok to put a registry, but not ok to say, monetary gifts are preferred.

Just make a small registry and let people know by word of mouth.

Skip the shower, don't register, people will give you cash. Problem solved..

The registry is more like a guide to offer suggestions if someone wanted to buy you a gift. Asking for money straight up is greedy and tacky af.

The point of a bridal shower is to shower the bride with gifts. If gifts are wanted, then don't have a shower.

Negative. Point them in the direction of the registry.

I think it's considered tacky because you're pretty much telling your guests you can't afford something and need money, whether it be the wedding, buying a house, etc. It's a more indirect way of asking for money by either not registering or making a small registry.

Hey OP, my birthday is coming up, and monetary gifts are preferred.
