Just skip the shower. A shower is an excuse to make your guests get you more than just a wedding present. Don't register. Don't have a shower. People will give cash at the wedding from what I've heard.
Obviously the answer is no, especially how you said it, but what are the circumstances that would have you want to do that?
We are at a loss for what to do. We are getting married in Tennessee, but moving to Cali (where FH already lives) a few months after the wedding. My mother wants to throw me a bridal shower but we are not planning on doing a moving van, rather shipping boxes of clothes, packing a ton of suitcases when we move. If I do a traditional registry and someone buys me a $50 plate set, I will have to spend at least that much to ship it out to cali. I am really sad that I can't do a traditional registry but oh well, it is what it is.
My current answer has been to not have a bridal shower, and for anyone who asks me or my family about getting us a gift, telling them gifts aren't necessary but if they want to we are moving cross-country so giftcards are better.
@Linday- her first response was great! The second one was a little over the top in my opinion. I couldn't imagine doing that to a friend. So what if they were tacky? They are my friend.

A shower is, theoretically, a time to shower the couple with gifts to start their life together.
If they don't need anything (which is absurd, because everyone needs things), do a luncheon without the shower component.
A shower's purpose IS primarily to give ("shower") gifts to the bride/couple. That's why it's acceptable to list registry information on shower invites (wedding shower, baby shower, etc.).
