Cash gift... Bridal shower

If you are throwing someone a bridal shower, instead of a wedding registry, can you put something like, "monetary gifts preferred?" If not, why?

There once was a bride who wanted money

No pots or pants or anything junky

    She said "Open your wallets

    I demand all your profits!"

And everyone thought that was c****.

A shower is specifically for gifts. You have a registry so you don't end up with 6 toasters and 4 sautee pans. If you do not want a shower, politely decline and do not have a registry.

This is not hard. If this is a difficult concept to understand a) please step away from the computer and read some literature b) stop believing the wedding industry

Hey man, knowing why is important. I don't believe in blinding accepting things. Knowing why is super important to understanding. Just because so and so says so is a dumb answer. That's why I liked spazzy's response.

NotSoMuchBetterThisTime, it's tacky and rude that's why. Why do we need to keep beating a dead horse??

I'd rather watch someone open a box with a bunch of little things inside of it totaling $25 than to have the bride open my cash gift of $25 in the midst of the $100 checks and what not she may receive. It's putting people on the spot and it's just not cool.

Because, like everyone has said to you a million times, from a traditional etiquette perspective, asking for money is never acceptable. It's really that simple.

    Everyone told you why.

You shouldn't do it, because its tacky. Would you like a further explanation of why its tacky? Oh that's right, you already got it. Its tacky because asking for money anytime is tacky.

    ETA: This is fucking pointless.

"It's tacky" is a good enough answer for me.

I'm just asking you all to support your answers, and I think some of you are falling short.

I'm trying to figure out if you really don't know the answer to this question or not.

Bridal showers are to set the couple up for their house, you include everyday household items, sheets, towels, cookware, china, silverware, small appliances, etc.

Just like baby showers are for couples to set-up for the new baby.

How do you adult from day-to-day?

Do what the fuck you want.

You're the one who is going to come across as tacky and have a more boring bridal shower than normal.

If the bride has a registry and isn't asking for money, why take it upon yourself to ask for money for her???
