K, we've all seen them. America's Funniest Home Videos of couples who take the cake tasting a tad to far and end up with it all over themselves. My question is, is anyone planning on to this on the big day?

The reason it's on my mind is my boss came back from her niece's wedding last weekend and has a story fit for the Jerry Springer show. Apparently the bride thought it would be a hoot to ambush her groom and smear the cake all over his face and in his hair. It was all fun and games until he decided to get her back. Instead of taking it in stride she began crying because it was all over her and began swinging and smacking him....in front everyone! He was trying to fend her off and I guess this went on for a few minutes until finally she DECKED HIM IN THE FACE! The family is currently taking bets to see how long the marriage lasts.

Personally, my FH is well aware he is not to do this to me, or I to him. I am spending way too much to look pretty to end up with cake in my hair.

Absolutely not. We were watching something just the other day where they did this, and I started saying to him that there will be non of that at our wedding and before I even finished the sentence he said I don't have to worry, there is no way he'll ever do something lame like that.

So my husband and I are silly and love to be goofy together. We decided to do something I found on Pinterest. On the cake table we had 2 vases one with each of our names on it and a sign explaining the game. Whoevers vase the guests put the most money in by the time the cake was cut got it in the face. Lol we both ended up with it in the face and we made about $500. The guests loved it and thought it was so fun. Also my wedding was not trailer park it was a Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra and friends) themed wedding with a live swing band. The cake only got on our cheeks ( you would have to go really crazy to get it in the hair and dress for those of you who made those comments) and took about 30 seconds and a napkin to get off. My makeup was just fine ( my red lipstick even stayed on). May I suggest urban decays all nighter spray it is magical. We have been together for almost 9 years now ( since we were juniors in high school) and happily married for almost5 months now no divorce in sight Smiley smile

    Those pictures are adorable, Kelsey.

I don't plan on doing it just because I don't want it to ruin my make up or hair. And because my FH is superstitious.

Kelsey that is so cute and a nice way to raise some money! I'm sure we will have a little smoosh, but I will clearly tell FH that it will not be a full on smash that would get all over me and my dress

We did- it was super funny and everyone got a kick out of it. I didn't get it in my hair and it didn't ruin my makeup. Sorry I'm not sorry that apparently I am "tacky".

I've told my FH that this will not be happening. Of course, he laughs it off and says yes it will....but I told him that I'm paying a lot of money to be beautified and such, so unless he wants cake (or tiramisu) on his $600+ Tom Ford suit, then he better not even think about it.

    Varying opinions on this huh?

We haven't discussed it but we will tonight. FH is a goof so he might want to. I'm shy and get embarrassed easily so not for me. He could put a dot on my nose and I would be okay though. I think it depends on each couple and their ideas.

I don't thing we are no or yes on this subject. I don't really want it in my hair and face but knowing my FH it will happen I just know to have wipeys and cleanup supplies handy. If it does happen that's ok it wont bother me. He will just get some in his face!!! **evil laugh**

We weren't going to but we did it anyways. We both were laughing about it.. it was a blast!!!

Edited: Tacky? Disrespectful? WOW, have some fun. I didn't spend $15K on my wedding for it to be serious the entire time. Everyone laughed about it. DH's cousin took icing off a cupcake and smashed it in Little BIL's hair, that was funny too!!!

We already decided that we aren't doing that...Why? Because we KNOW it would come to hurt feelings and possibly blows...LOL!

We did. We didn't like, smash it all over each other's faces. It was funny, and cute and it wasn't out of disrespect.

Also, I spent a shit ton on hair and makeup. Not a bit of frosting or cake got anywhere near my hair and my makeup was flawless all night.

I also roll my eyes at "bad luck". Give me a break.

@Married - I roll my eyes to at the bad luck thing too. Same as rain on your wedding day means good luck. It was hot and sunny with no rain and we've had the most amazing luck after we got married!

Does anyone know where this tradition started? Is there a reason behind it, a superstition, or is it just something that sort of evolved?

Hahah! That is a rediculous story! FH and I are prob going to 'playfully' smash it in each others faces...I told him its okay as log as he doesn't get it on my dress. His word of advice to me was 'lean into it'. Lol

But then I saw on FB a girl I went to HS with did this funny thing where they got the BM and MOH in the face and it was hysterical because they had to idea it was coming and it made for fun pictures so in trying to talk FH into doing that. We'll see Smiley smile

Everything is tacky around here. Lol

As a guest, the only reason I pay attention to the cake cutting is to see whether or not cake will be smashed into a face. I like the suspense. Smiley smile I think it's fun and playful but of course some people take it way too far.

We did it. Right in the middle of the face. No smearing all in good fun. The photographer even has a picture of him with a napkin wiping my face for me Smiley smile I get him back with the whole cake on our one year. Lol jk

I found below link on how cake smashing got started. Cakes originally made with barley or wheat were put over brides head for fertility.

    Nowadays, symbol of power.

I'm not doing cake smashing. I don't find it appealing or amusing and don't want frosting all over my face and feeling sticky. I know FH wouldn't do this to me and he wouldn't want it done tol him either.
