Cake smashed in the face?

Private User, on July 17, 2013 at 3:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 69

K, we've all seen them. America's Funniest Home Videos of couples who take the cake tasting a tad to far and end up with it all over themselves. My question is, is anyone planning on to this on the big day?

The reason it's on my mind is my boss came back from her niece's wedding last weekend and has a story fit for the Jerry Springer show. Apparently the bride thought it would be a hoot to ambush her groom and smear the cake all over his face and in his hair. It was all fun and games until he decided to get her back. Instead of taking it in stride she began crying because it was all over her and began swinging and smacking him....in front everyone! He was trying to fend her off and I guess this went on for a few minutes until finally she DECKED HIM IN THE FACE! The family is currently taking bets to see how long the marriage lasts.

Personally, my FH is well aware he is not to do this to me, or I to him. I am spending way too much to look pretty to end up with cake in my hair.

FH already knows this is a no-go for me. Plus it just isn't in his nature to smash food into people's faces- especially mine.

But shhhh I plan on putting a fingertip of frosting on his nose Smiley smile

I know some people are against this, but I say it's all in the couple and their communication about it. I don't see the need to smush it up their nose or into their hair, but a gentle smash in an easily cleaned area when you BOTH were on the same page about it shouldn't be a big deal.

I think it gets out of hand when one person "surprises" the other with it. As with everything else in marriage, it's about communication.

I personally think its tacky and I cringe when I see it happen at weddings. I feel if thats what you want to do, dont go overboard. A little smudged on the cheek is ok, all over my hair is divorce worthy.....lol

I can see if you are a spontaneous couple and you don't mind, then by all means go for it. But I have seen to many awkward brides who were pissed and trying to hide it.

No....and mostly because he'll retaliate...lol. I don't think it's that big of a deal as long as both partners know it's coming....

I think we will do tap on the nose, so just a touch gets on, but that's it. I'm not ruining my dress, hair or makeup. Smiley smile

My hair, make-up and dress cost WAY too much for them to have cake smashed all over them. my DH dabbed a little on my nose or something, which made for a cute photo, but i swore to him that i'd cry if he smashed it on me and so he didn't even think about it.

i'm not "against" cake smashing exactly, i guess i just don't get why anyone would want to look like a hot mess for the rest of their reception.

Ive already threatened him with no sex on the honeymoon if he smashes cake in my face. I told him if it gets on my dress or in my hair, he is sleeping on the couch.

He gets to smash cake in my face, if I get to smash fists in his balls.

If I tell my FH not to, he will. So i think I'll just not mention it and if he gets that look in his eyes when the time comes, he's gonna see a look in my eyes . . .

I hate a cake smash so much! We are using forks! Besides, we are doing the cake cutting immediately after the first dance (before dinner) - so the wait staff has time to cut it in time for dessert - that's a long reception to be lookin' a mess!

We didn't. I threatened him before the wedding, too. Told him I would kick every.one.out. Smiley tongue Maybe wouldn't have done something that extreme but I would have cried.

I spent way too much money and time to look good and the cake was not cheap. I don't want to waste any of it. My FH wants to do it but I told him what would happen if he did. I would cry and tell the minister not to mail in our marriage license to make the marriage legal. Then he can move out. I did tell him he could smash one of the cupcakes in my face when we get home after the wedding.
