Bridesmaid to matron of honor

Kim, on January 5, 2017 at 10:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 105

I got engaged back in August and my fiancé and I aren't getting married until may 2018. My best friend is getting married this September and I originally asked her to be my bridesmaid.. being that she will be married by the time my wedding hits how do I go about "upgrading" her to be a matron of honor?

And to add onto this question because so many people left rude unnecessary comments and mocked me is im asking because a lot of people have told me the proper thing to do would make her a matron of honor being that she will be married at the time. So I figured hey why not and ask? Instead of thinking this was a positive helpful forum there are people here that have to insult and be negative

She is still a bridesmaid, whether she is single or married. "Matron of honor" is used in place of "maid of honor" if your MOH is married.

And please, leave her as a BM and don't 'upgrade' her. That just says "you weren't important enough when I asked you, but you are now."

Oh bless your heart. Bridesmaids aren't upgraded just because they get married. Only if you had a Maid of honor, who you originally asked to be your MOH, and she got married would she become a Matron. But you can have married bridesmaids. Their marital status has nothing to do with their title. You choose your honor attendant because of just that... she is honorable.

There's no need for insults here or mocking. I've been told by numerous people that I should make her a matron of honor after she gets married to I figured I would just ask.

This world is so sad where people can't just help out without "insults" or mocking one another.

"Bridesmaid to matron of honkr". Sounds like "honker". Matron of Honker. She's a goose because she now has a gander .... and she honks ..... Aaahaha Ha!!!! Get it???!!!!!!!

Please spell check your title. I'm killin' myself over here.

Oops ... just read your latest post Kim. Never mind me ....

I'm thinking troll. You were way too easily offended. I'll play along anyway.

The reality is Matron/Maid of honor are the same thing. The only difference is one is married and the other is not.

If your bridesmaid isn't your maid of honor, then there's no need to make any changes. Do you already have a maid/matron of honor?

Kim, yes matron is used when someone is married.

Don't do anything about your wedding party for 6 months at least. It's too early.

So instead of asking those numerous people, you came here because...?

This is actually a pretty offensive question, with the topic of upgrading. Bridesmaid isn't a good enough title for a woman who has been chosen to enter the married club?

I don't find this discussion offensive at all where I've been told by other people that the bridesmaid who will then be married would feel offended by not being a matron of honor and thought I would ask some people who are also engaged / married for advice on a wedding forum. But nope.

They gave you advice. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not advice and doesn't mean it's rude.

The only way you would change it to Matron of Honor is if she was Maid of Honor originally. Otherwise, a married bridesmaid is still a bridesmaid.

The bridesmaid would be offended? Wtf? I would be more offended if a friend attempted to "upgrade" me...

I never said I didn't like the advice. The mocking of my question is just uncalled for

You changed it!!!!!! Awwww!!!! Smiley smile That was sweet!!!!! Totally lame joke too.

To answer your what I believe to be your intended question : a woman who is asked to be a bridesmaid remains a bridesmaid even if she gets married. The Maid of Honor is unmarried and a Matron of a Honor is married. If you ask a single person or an engaged person to be your Maid of Honor and they get married before your wedding date, then their title would technically be Matron of Honor. At no time should a bridesmaid be made a Matron of Honor because they are getting married. Hope this helps Kim!

I don't understand why you came here for advice, and then people gave you the advice, and then you don't listen to the advice. Why did you ask? I mean, they told you politely that you don't need to do that, but you are still upset.
