Boutonniere question...please help!!!

TheNewMrsT, on March 2, 2013 at 1:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Today we went and met with a florist who made a really good point that I hadnt considered before....because we are doing a destination wedding the guys will be wearing linen pants with white shirts and teal ties to match the bridesmaid dresses, and then FH will also have a vest to match his pants....anyways the florist mentioned the groomsmen not having boutonnieres since there isnt a vest or coat to pin them on, I am not sure how I feel about this, do you think its okay for just FH to have a boutonniere????

Ive attached photos of my bouquet, FHs boutonniere and the wedding party attire inspirations to help give you the full image. Girls will have all white calla lilly bouquets and I will have a few added into my bouquet as well....

Thanks ladies!!

Yes, only do one for FH. I think bouts on shirts always look weird.

I think it is perfectly fine to have the groomsmen without boutonnieres. Your inspiration photo doesn't look like it's missing anything, and they aren't wearing them. It will also save you money!

I officiate a lot of beach weddings where the guys do not wear vests or jackets. It is very difficult to pin boutonnieres onto shirts and not have them tipping over -- even if you pin through the pocket. I have sometimes stuck the stem into the pocket and then pinned through the 2 layers of fabric. Sometimes even that is not successful and it takes time. Frankly, if the florist won't be pinning on all of them -- skip them. If your groom is wearing a vest, he can be the only one wearing a boutonniere.

FH and I are MOH/BM at his cousin's wedding this summer. The bride was having a difficult time with this as well. I suggested instead of pinning a boutinnere on their shirts, the florist is making them tie clips.

My FH & groomesmen are also wearing white shirts only with a turquoise tie & I've opted to have them wear bouttenires. My bouquets & bouttenires are being custom made from a seller on Etsy & are made out of burlap, the actual flower of the bouttenires will be a light tan with the stem being a turquoise, so it will still tie in with the colors but not clash with their ties.

Just have him wear a fancy tie clip and call it a day.

There is an 'art' to pinning bouttenieres and corsages.

    I agree with @Nancy T 100%.

If you must have flowers - keep it very simple and lightweight.

To make things standout, why no let FH give colored hankies as gifts to match the ties to give more color if they are not doing boutonnieres. just FYI

FH and his groomsmen are not wearing bouts for our wedding.. at all. FH didn't care and they only show during the ceremony.. it just seemed silly to worry about something that he didn't want. Smiley smile

I think if the men are just wearing a shirt and tie the flower makes them stand out from the other guests.
