Bad Wedding Cliches

Pumpkin's Sunshine, on August 29, 2011 at 4:10 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 56

This article on yahoo today is awesome:

http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/sex/bad-wedding-cliches-born-from-good-ideas-2529171/#photoViewer=1

9 bridal trends that have gotten tired:

1. Dancing to "At Last"

2. Tiny Food

3. Still Life Photography (i.e. the dress hanging in the window shot)

4. Tables named after the couple’s not-so-interesting interests

5. Using the term "bridezilla"

6. Disposable Cameras

7. Dogs as Ring Bearers

8. The "roast" toast (i.e. making fun of the bride and groom in the best man toast)

9. The "laid back" theme

Did they miss any?

How about the smashing the cake in the face? I don't think that's cute or funny!

Oh I am with you on that one Tink! Not everyone can pull off a jumping photo and it's just overdone!

I mostly agree with this, except #4....ok, so the whole naming tables after things might be overdone, but is going back to the whole numbers deal really much better? I mean, I'd rather be sitting at 'paris' or 'ursa minor' or beautiful' then table 8 or 16. Smiley smile

Disposable cameras are very old-school... considering everyone and their momma is probably bringing a digital camera... lol!!

    This is great.

Agree with the jumping photo - I plan on vetoing that.

Lol I am telling my photographer no dress hanging in the window or jumping shots either, I too think they are overdone. I am going to think of something different and send the ideas to her. I'm sure she would like not taking cliched shots as well.

Aww I like my dress in the window shot! But my jumping picture did NOT turn out well... though it was pretty funny, some of us (including me) were making some ridiculous faces!! hahaha

I agree with the "laid back". I wonder sometimes if I am the only bride that does NOT want a laid back casual affair. I don't plan to do this twice! I want it classy and as fabulous as possible....and within my budget! lol Smiley smile

Yeah, and the article was talking about "false casual" where they still spent $10,000 on the reception just to try to make it seem laid back, when in reality it's as fussy as anything else.

I don't know, we have two dogs and I think the last thing they need is to be over-stimulated by being at the wedding ceremony with over 200 people wanting to touch and pet them. They will be happier at home with a Beggin Strip and the comfort of home.

Our dog is quite the opposite Pumpkin ... he loves being wherever we are and it came as no surprise to everyone when we decided to include him. He literally hates being alone and is so super good with people.

We spens all that time on getting gorgeous just to have cake & frosting smashed all over, no way!

Mags I agree with you 100%! My FH told all his GM's that they were going to wear shorts & flip flops! WTH, they wear that everyday, we only get married once! You darn right it's a big deal! haha He agreed! That was a funny, yet short conversation! lol

I hate the jumping photo, and have made it very clear that i will NOT be having one... Also the little mesh bags of Candy of hersey's kisses with the tag "Hugs and Kisses from the Mr. and Mrs." Three of my cousin's have done that as a favor... Not essentially a bad thing mind you, but just over done!

I love jumping ones!! I want to do it with baloons or umbrellas so it looks like we're all being carried away!
