9 bridal trends that have gotten tired:

1. Dancing to "At Last"

2. Tiny Food

3. Still Life Photography (i.e. the dress hanging in the window shot)

4. Tables named after the couple’s not-so-interesting interests

5. Using the term "bridezilla"

6. Disposable Cameras

7. Dogs as Ring Bearers

8. The "roast" toast (i.e. making fun of the bride and groom in the best man toast)

9. The "laid back" theme

Did they miss any?

When we met with our first photographer, I specifically stated that I didn't want any photos of the bridal party jumping, the groom stalking the bride, the Charlie's Angels pose or anything else that was pretty typical in today's wedding photos. It's fine for other folks but at our age, they all seemed rather silly. We opted for portrait shots and photojournalistic style. The photographer was AGHAST that we wouldn't want those type of photos because "everyone does them!" (which was exactly my point). She then stated that "Grandparents love those photos!" (um our grandparents have been gone for quite some time) and in the end, we found a photographer who totally got our vision.

I have to agree with no. 9. I know so many people who work so hard to have an non-formal, non-traditional wedding that they end up spending more money and getting more stressed out to try and be unique. It's almost like an more elegant, formal setting is unique nowadays!

-We didn't do jumping, but we had my dress hanging on an antique dresser/hutch thing my mom had in her living room. It had a photo og my Grandma and my aunt when my aunt was about 6 months, and a bunch of other old/vintage stuff.

    -We didn't do h'or d'erves.

-MIL thought it would be cute for the dog to be there, I said no, he's hyper doens't do well with lots of people (doesn't listen) he's a farm dog. LOL

-I may or may not have gone off on some people who attempted to throw the 'bridezilla' word around. If I'm paying, I want it right, STFU. Smiley smile

-No disposable camera, no table names, just numbers.

-DH and I both have a hard time being the focal point, so a toast was enough, a roast would of been very umcomfortable and not fun to us. Hence why my crazy sister wasn't allowed to have the mike..

My dog is going to be my ring bearer he is getting a tux and will be dropped off after the ceremony. I have never been to a wedding with a dog in it, not saying they don't happen but I honestly don't care if its cliche its my day and my dog means everything to me.

I disagree that still life photography is tired, if one has an awesome photog, that's certainly not the case :-) Also one could argue that the whole traditional type wedding in of itself is cliche.

But I do think wedding party wearing sunglasses is cliche too or just lame..also the converse sneakers. meh.

I love love love still life, in fact its my FFIL specialty and I've encouraged him to roam the venue and take all the artsy still life photos he'd like to =). He's a great photographer and even though he won't be the wedding day photographer (he is the FOG after all!) I know he will enjoy getting in the shots he cares about =). Tiny Food, I'm confused, aren't appetizers generally tiny pieces of food? Interests... bah numbers/ names/ places it all works for me. Bridezilla... um yeah anytime a bride disagrees with anyone and is called a bridezilla I get mad... apparently to not be a bridezilla the bride must be a complete pushover. Disposable cameras... technology has caught up, these are no longer necessary.

Eh overall I think most of these are fun traditions and I'll probably have most of them =). If the guests think they are too overdone they can opt to not attend or just talk behind our backs about how terrible it is to see the same thing done over and over lol.

I am surprised how defensive people got about these. Not just here, but also on the actual article's comments section. It's one person's opinion. If that bothers you, maybe it's because you know the author is right. The comments on the article's page were calling the author bitter and anti-wedding. I did not see that at all. She admits that these cliches came from good ideas, they were just overdone. She also talks about traditions and how they are an integral part of the wedding. None of these things are "traditions" they are recent trends that may or may not have gotten out of hand.

Sami- the tiny food thing was in relation to making normal things tiny to serve as apps- i.e. mini-tacos, mini-quiche, mini-whatever. They are tasty and fun, but maybe not wedding standard.

I think there is a diff between getting defensive and just sharing opinions..on WW there are often posts like these that people comment about what they agree or disagree, that's what's great about everyone having different likes and dislikes..but ya geez some of those comments on the original website, like calling the author bitter are definitely defensive!

I'm totally buying my dogs tuxedos for pictures and not using them in the wedding lol. My little old basset hound (11 at the wedding) would make himself the center of attention by howling through the ceremony... not good! I'm also planning a post-wedding TTD photo session where I get one of them to lay on my train for a nap =).

I like the still life photos and I think they absolutely have a place in the wedding album. We spend so much time thinking about the details. I want to capture those details and remember them!

I saw that article yesterday, who are these people who's deciding what's what?

I agree with the person who said they might as well say "weddings" are clichés, just go to courthouse, who cares...
