Are you kidding me??? The Gaylord Hotel-National Harbor

Soon to be Keels, on April 26, 2012 at 6:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

I was at the dress shop yesterday and I got to talking to a nice lady who was getting married at the Gaylord in September. I decided to get on the website to check out the venue. the cost is $2500 for the venue but there must be a minimum of $40,000 in food and beverages to use the venue. Also they do weddings from 10 people to 1000.

First of all the food at the Gaylord is not even considered top notch to rack up $40,000 in charges.

I looked into them as well, and I couldnt believe the prices. We are getting having our ceremony and reception at Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa. If you haven't chose a venue, check out their website. They prices are very reasonable.

I contacted the Gaylord and the Sunset Room at National Harbor and was shocked at the prices! The Sunset Room is less expensive than the Gaylord but the $8,000 Saturday rental + $15,000 minimum in f&b sounds outrageous to me! I have prices for Fridays and Sundays too if anyone is interested.

Having planned weekend retreats for my former employer at the Gaylord I am not at all surprised at the Gaylord prices for weddings.

It's the Gaylord at the National Harbor. Not the local Marriott.

People that plan to have their wedding receptions there have budgets that exceed beyond what most budget-conscience brides on here have.

I've been to a Gaylord wedding and love staying there- I love their Sunday brunch!

I am not at all surprised at their prices. As Kimi said, you don't plan to have a wedding at the gaylord if you are on a small budget, the prices are crazy.I remember room service there for two people- breakfast at that cost $100.

@Kimi k. - You said it exactly! The Gaylord is not set up for brides on an average budget. It is a beautiful spot though!

I looked quickly at the Gaylord but it was out of our budget. We did however, nearly book the Sunset Room. In the end, Oxon Hill Manor (overlooks National Harbor) opened up on our day and we were thrilled beyone belief to have our reception there. Our guests all stayed in National Harbor (nearly all the hotels gave us fabulous room block prices because our reception was at Oxon Hill)...and they all loved it.

I looked into Gaylord too. We are more than likely staying there the night of the wedding but getting married there was out of the question!! lol

Yikes! Our entire wedding (with two receptions, one near Boston and one in DC) was under $10,000.

The Gaylord is CRAZY! Oxon Hill Manor overlooks the harbor and is much less expensive. I think it's their catering that's over the top. It's a beautiful venue, but for what they're asking for is it worth it?

I like Oxon Hill Manor but the rooms where too choppy for me. I would like all my guest to sit together. An October wedding down by the Harbor would set it off.

Soon to be Keels, we did everything outside at Oxon Hill - the cocktail hour was at the reflecting pool and then everyone moved to the back terrace for dinner and dancing.

@Amy I am concerned about the weather on October 5th. I would love for the guest to stay close to the Gaylord but the weather worries me.

Echoeing above comments, the Gaylord is going to be saucey! (but what an indulgance if you can do it!) As for October 5th weather, I wouldnt worry too much,I've had beautiful sailing days as far into fall as Thanksgiving weekend and occasionally beyond, its a gamble but probably a safe one

I don't know if you are likely to get a response. This thread is 7 years old, so the person may not be on here anymore and their price quotes will definitely be outdated.
