Are Wedding Favors a Must?

Stephanie, on October 16, 2019 at 4:54 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 234

Hey Ladies. Are there any of you who are NOT giving out wedding favors? Are they an absolute must? I don't want to seem cheap, but we are almost over budget and one part of my brain says "I am paying for food and desert and everything else, the experience should be enough". I have been to plenty weddings, grabbed favors and threw them away shortly thereafter. The other part of my brain says "Don't be ratchet, have the favors". Honestly, I feel like they are a waste of money. Am I wrong?

I don't think favors are necessary. They are usually kind of cheap (in price and/or quality) and not everyone's cup of tea. If you really feel like you need a type of favor, maybe have an edible favor like cookies or candies. That's what I'm doing for my wedding.

We gave out favors, but we've been to plenty of weddings that didn't and were totally fine.

We didn’t have favors! My wedding planner told me early on that they are a waste of money because most people will toss them or leave them.

Nope. Wedding favors are not a must. They’re a nice gesture but not a must. I have gone back and forth about them. I’m just going to get some champagne bubbles from amazon and use them as a favor and for our send off. Nope, don’t feel bad. The reception in itself is enough.

Definitely not necessary. Our favors were small bags of beef jerky my in laws make (and our friends and family go crazy for), but I have never before seen all favors taken at a wedding. If we didn't have something like that we knew most everyone loved..we wouldn't have done favors at all. The reception is definitely thanks enough.

My coworker and I were just talking about this the other day. Her daughter and I are around the same age but even with the generation gap her and I both agreed that favors are outdated. If you have leftover funds and have nothing better to spend it on, go for it. But honestly nobody cares for favors. The people that do are probably the same people gossiping about what you did and didn’t do for your wedding.

My aunt for some reason bought us wedding bell favors for our wedding. I think it's a waste because after the wedding no one will probably ever use them again so if it wasn't for her we wouldn't have any either.

Our wedding planner told us that people are moving away from giving out favors. We are not going to be giving them out as we don’t feel like they will be missed!

Absolutely not. After attending, or being in, about a dozen weddings I've only ever taken home one favor.

BRANDI, I agree. I do want something for the send off, but anything else is just extra to me. Thanks so much.

Favors are not necessary at all. If you don't want them, don't get them.

Neena, FACTS. I think I will save my left over money. I will get something for the send off like bubbles or something. That's it. Thanks so much.

No, you're not wrong. Growing up, I always liked the tradition. But then I started planning my own wedding, and the costs of everything are crazy!! We decided early on that favors was an expense we didn't need. So, we're not doing them. Instead we are giving our guests a fun party with great food, free booze, and dancing all night! Nobody needs favors.
