Anybody register at Bed Bath and Beyond?

Is this common procedure for that store? It was so weird and very uncomfortable. My Fh finally got frustrated because she was giving him no input so he left and came back later. Anyplace else we've registered (Macy's and Target) just gave us the scanner and said have fun. Has this happened to anyone else or is it just our store? Did you find it strange?

I worked as a bridal consultant there for a bit in college. They are supposed to give you a presentation and give you an idea of all of the things you'll want that maybe you hadn't thought of before as well as the suggested quantities. They are supposed to show you how to scan, but they aren't allowed to add or change your registry unless you say so! They are supposed to push the fine china department and possibly help you out in that area. For me it depended on the couple. If they didn't want fine china, that was fine with me (I know I'm not getting it). A high number of items on a registry is considered good for a consultant, but it's pretty easy to get a feel for who wants a lot of help and who wants none.

Bridal is Bed Bath and Beyond's bread and butter. They get a ton of their sales from registries and it gets all the guests in their stores also. The consultants are paid more than other employees for that reason.

Sorry your consultant was so pushy! I hated those girls.

They should let you know everything before you leave fine china and maybe check in while you're over in softlines. Going around with you is not part of her job!

We JUST got back from Bed Bath & Beyond! We loved our experience though! The gal did hold the scanner the entire time, but it was totally fine by me because she had to keep correcting things (technology failures) which I wouldn't have been able to do, she showed us around everywhere and taught us what BATH SHEETS ARE (seriously, register for them, they are awesome!) and all we had to do was point and say "I like that! Scan that!"

We weren't really going in to scan for more than pots and pans and some bath towels, but before we knew it we had 10 pages worth of stuff (mostly kitchen gadgets and baking goodies)

I think that's just a BB&B thing though, to have someone escort you, because I've registered at other places for baby showers and what not and usually you get the scanner and go for it, but FH & I really enjoyed ourselves and the girl who helped us was very fun and helpful Smiley smile

I had a really great experience (although the bridal consultant was a mom of one of my students this year). She did a lot of checking back in so it was a good mix. She did try to sell us on a few things but not too bad. It was uncomfortable but I just went online and removed them later.

Oh and PS my FH did all of the scanning- that was his job hehe

We went there too and even though she gave us the scanner it was like she followed us around the entire time... it was kinda awkward and weird we kept tellin her yup were good and she kept coming back.

Eww, I don't like that. For that reason alone, I won't register there, not even online. Anytime anyone is pushy or "hand-hold-y", I just leave.

I don't want an escort, I want to hold the scanner. I'll ask for help if I need it.

They were ok, but I didn't see anything that I couldn't get from Target, Crate & Barrel or Macy's which is where the bulk of our registries reside.

I registered us online and only went to the store to pick up insert cards. There's not much I want from that store.

We registered by ourselves. I wonder whether this varies from store to store.

Usually you do it yourself, but maybe she ws new or something and didn't know.

I also heard that if people get things that aren't on your registry, it will show up on it.

When I went there the lady walked us through the store to point out where things were. They are supposed to suggest certain brands but there were a few times where she said "I'm supposed to push this one, but that other one is much better." After she walked us around the store and pointed out some key registry items, she left us alone.

We registered there. FH loves that store. We had a lady who walked with us and held the scanner but like Jen said, if we had control, we wouldn't have been able to fix the errors. She just took us to each department throwing out suggestions of things we may or may not have. She was very helpful and made our experience nice.

I would talk to the manager. Our experience was wonderful with the person we spoke with, still remember her name, Jenn, and she was great. She just gave us a small little tour to find things easily and told us if we needed anything to let her know and off we were with the scanner.

It looks like it might standard procedure because the same thing happened to us. We were with the sales person the entire time. I thought she would leave after showing us a couple of departments, but she actually didn't. She even delayed our scanning by having to do a couple of other things in-between, which was super annoying. In total we spent 3 hrs in the store. Let's just say that was the only registering the FH did with me. He was too tired after that experience.

I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond. The store employee said I could either make the registry myself (I had my mom with me) or she would come and assist us. I had her come with us. I figured she worked at the store and would know which brands and items work better than others. She also knew where everything was. I would say "I want a ...." and she knew exactly where it was.

But her personality was not pushy at all. Had it been, I would have requested to work with someone else. It seems in your case the employee's personality was the cause of frustration. I would suggest if you need anything else or want to change something, ask to work with a different store employee.

Yep, this is their 'procedure'. We are registered there. I always go to that store and even before we were engaged I always seen this happening to other people. So when I decided to register there I initialy registred ONLINE, and then went in the store and told them I just wanteed to add things. They asked if I had met with a consultant already and I told them yes. They didnt bother me anymore after that. They gave us the scanner and let us be. So I would say thats the way to go. If you go in again to add things just tell them its not ur first time working on ur registry and be sure to tell them you already met with someone last time.

We registered a BB&B & there was another couple behind us that was waiting, so they gave us the scanner ourselves. We were done in 20 minutes & when we came back, the guy gave us a hard time for not having a lot of choices on our registry. We had told him before we started that we were registering at Target & Macy's as well, & that we had previously lived together, so we already had a lot & just wanted to update. He was very rude, though.

That's very odd. We registered a BBB and she was extremely helpful, and just handed us the scanners after getting us int he computer and let us go. No pressure. We went back once and didn't have that experience either, nor did that happen at the two other stores we registered at. That is NOT the norm.

Our lady did that too...but she could tell I didn't want her there and got the hint, as I am not good at hiding my emotions Smiley smile
