Is this common procedure for that store? It was so weird and very uncomfortable. My Fh finally got frustrated because she was giving him no input so he left and came back later. Anyplace else we've registered (Macy's and Target) just gave us the scanner and said have fun. Has this happened to anyone else or is it just our store? Did you find it strange?

We registered in person and the guy walked around with us. I was kind of pissed at first because I wanted us to just go around by ourselves, but it turned out to be great. The guy was very helpful and pointed some things out that we might have have thought to register for (useful stuff). Maybe it depends on who you get. He was not pushy at all, and made sure to ask BOTH FH and I what we were looking for. We ended up having a great experience. Of course, if we have to go back to add stuff, we'll just ask for the scan gun so we can get in and out. We were there for 3 hours the first time!

Yep!!! We did. MY FH's brother is a district manager for BBB. They do hold the scanner because that's part of their job. They also do try and get you to register for the high end items, which made FH super mad! I was totally sold on all of it, of course I want the best of the best, but FH pulled me aside and told me I need to chill and think about all the people who are coming to our wedding who are not willing to spend $100+ on a sauce pan. We still put the high end items on our reg, but we also added the reg priced items to even it out.

They are actually very good at what they do in my opinion, if I was given the scanner and told to go for it, I don't think the reg would have been completed, and would've had a bunch of incomplete dish sets, nothing would match etc.

I worked at BBB for over 5 years in the Fine China/Bridal Registry department. Let me provide you with some insight. 1) At the beginning, my first year, it was very easy. We registered a couple, showed and practiced with them the use of the scanner, get them a few suggestions, and then, allowed the couple to walk the store and scan items. It was so easy for the couple. I could tell if they needed help or further suggestions and offered to walk with them in departments where they needed help. 2) Then BBB saw the amount of money they could make off of the bridal couple and then we were told we had no choice but to walk with the couples and NEVER, EVER allow the couple a chance to scan with the scanner. We, the Bridal Consultants, had to hold the scanner at all times. 3) The Bridal Consultants were then given a "quota" per registry. We had to MAKE the couples scan at least 6 items for every invitation the couple sent. We had to write a note to the store manager giving him this ratio.

Also, don't let anyone at BBB tell you that you can't get cash for any returns. At my former store, the than current operations manager now store manager, used to tell us to tell the couples that they had to accept a gift card instead of cash for any return. THIS IS NOT TRUE. If you call the corporate store in NJ they will tell you that we give cash for any bridal return. Period. This now store manager is known for canceling a bridal registry if a couple asks for cash for a return.

If a bridal couple refused to have the bridal consultant walk and scan with them, and the registry was too small or did not contain at least 60% fine china, crystal stemware, better giftware, or flatware, our department manager, key holder, or store manager would delete the registry from our system. Sometimes our department manager or key holder would have the bridal consultant add items that the couple did not choose just to make the bridal registry figures look better for the store. This was normal everyday practice. We were told if a couple called to complain just tell them that it was a computer error. Once the registry is in the system and does not decrease in numbers and percentages by the close of business on the following Sunday, everything was fine and we, the bridal consultants, got to keep our jobs. I know several people transfered or fired for not making the numbers.

We had a VERY BAD experience. Our consultant did all the scanning. We did not have an option. She brought us to the most expensive items and would only let us choose between these. After we said we would prefer more reasonable items (since that is who we are and also to be considerate of our guests), she said, 'remember we are not concerned about the price.' I found out how expensive the items were when I got online to review our registry. Our consultant also talked the ENTIRE time--telling us what she had at home, what she would like, etc. We have since deleted our registry through them. I would not recommend registering there. Target was a great experience--no complaints!
