African American/Black Brides: What are you doing with your hair?

Nora, on October 16, 2017 at 3:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 4 78

Just curious as to what you plan to do (or what you did) with your hair! I'm natural and I'm looking into styles that have my hair out (FH loves it big) but I'm curious to hear what you all did, whether your hair is natural, relaxed, or if you had a wig, weave, crochet braids, extensions...anything!

I have no idea and Pinterest is my biggest enemy right now.

My hair is natural and I am thinking of investing in some good extensions that mimic my natural kinks to boost an updo, whether that updo be a bun, French roll, or whatever. Eta: words

My default hairstyle is braids that I then frenchbraid and tuck into a bun due to the length of my hair. I am thinking about wearing something similar on my wedding day unless my family has a different idea. My hair will be under my veil so it won't be super visible.

@FutureMrsHill I love that look. Is that a high bun or a low bun? I saw a real good tutorial on YT for a low bun.

@Rae awesome! Do you like the ones that include cornrows or flat twists? I love those but they aren't me unfortunately.

@Ashley I totally understand. Everyone's hair is all luscious and long. I had to go to google to find pics of just regular bridal hair. Right now Solange is my inspiration.

@ameretta that sounds like a great idea! I love that double braided look. I feel like that works really well for a bridal hairstyle.

I was just thinking about the same thing. I don't want the typical long sew in. Hubby likes my natural hair. I just cant wear it out because of unpredictable humidity and weather will take whatever I do to it right out. So I was thinking the only real choice is a nice updo. Something that will look flattering from any angle, with maybe a few curls dangling.

I have relaxed hair, and I purchased extensions from The Vanity Box and my hairdresser sew in the tracks via the microlink technique. In hindsight, I should have just done the clip ins, because I didn't comb out my hair after every swim while we were on our honeymoon.

@Nora, that wedding fro has me seriously contemplating throwing my previous ideas out the window!

Of course my hair will never behave like that on such an important day. Shrinkage is real! (Especially on the back of my head. Lol)

@Ashley that is why the rare occasions that I wear my hair unbraided usually coincide with my unbraiding it for a shower later that day. I live in a desert and it still picks up on all the trace humidity and frizzes up quickly.

I am doing a natural sew-in (extensions). My hair is natural but I occasionally get silk blow-outs so I will have extensions added for length and than get it curled so I can have flowy curls for the princess vibe. It will be worn down with a side swoop part.

I have decided to go with a sew in and it will styled into a really pretty swept updo that sits at the nape of my neck.

My hair is relaxed. I'm getting extensions and having my hair down with curls. I get the hair from Mayvenn.com. They have a 30-day money back guarantee. The hair is great quality.

I'm so glad you asked this! I've been wondering the same thing.

I'm natural and have also been heat-free for the past year or so, plus I know with a summer wedding I would sweat out any straight style before even making it down the aisle. So I'm going to try some style with my hair down. As an added question, how are you ladies wearing your veils with your hairstyles? That the part I can't figure out.
