My husband and I were beyond satisfied with the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. We selected the intimate wedding package and everything went smoothly. The staff were very accommodating from the time we viewed the facility to the actual ceremony. I highly recommend this venue. It was very cost effective for what we desired and very elegant.Sent on 04/26/2016

Can't say enough good things about our experiences at this venue---both as guests of others' weddings as as the stars of our own! :) I'm writing this review almost 3 years after we got married because in going back thru pictures & stories, I realized what an important part Gwinnett Historic Courthouse played in our happiness. The staff were incredibly welcoming and professional. As a bride, I was never bothered with questions, and my wedding planner + mother were given all the help they could ask for in executing the big day. We so appreciated getting to use the entire building--including the downstairs hall to showcase a museum of the personal artifacts from our love story, plus drinks, appetizers, and music! My privacy thru 2 dress changes was safeguarded from guests, and the setup/cleanup processes were a breeze for our team. The extra refrigerated storage made it easy for us, and they gave us plenty of access before the big day so we weren't rushed. Downtown Lawrenceville responds really kindly to all the weddings + events in the squares center, and we got some great honks & cheers while outside doing pictures!---which turned out beautifully, by the way ;)Sent on 09/27/2017

We had the reception here after the church ceremony. Having two venues made us a bit nervous, but the GREAT folks at the courthouse made it so easy. They took care of things we hadn't thought about and kept in contact. The venue is beautiful and so many photo oportunitiesSent on 04/30/2012

The women who worked during our reception were more like family to us with how sweetly they spoke to us and treated us! The venue was beautiful, clean, well lit, and easily accessible. The dance floor fit all of us during a very Italian dance, the Tarantella...which uses a lot of space! I wouldn't recommend it for more than 200 people. We were just under 200 and more than that would have been uncomfortable. We only used the upstairs room for our reception, we had the wedding at a different location. A five star venue all the way!Sent on 09/15/2011

I do many events at the Courthouse. Love the staff, they are always helpful. The location decorates beautifully, no matter your event colors. Tables, chairs, and set-up included in rental price (some subject to change). I've never had a bad event here.Sent on 10/09/2009

I held both my wedding service and reception in the large courtroom in the Historic Gwinnett County Courthouse, and couldn't have been happier! It was a perfect venue for our guests and the service.Sent on 02/07/2011
With a twenty-year career as a meeting and event planner, I'm picky about the venues I use; especially for this momentous event in my life! The staff was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Every request or question had an immediate response. The room was in excellent condition when we came in to decorate; the hired catering staff was given help and support for use of the kitchen; and the Director of the facility made certain we had everything we needed, included extra decorating for us, AND gave us a limited edition print of the building to frame as a keepsake. My one and only slight criticism would be that the cost per hour is slightly above other venues in the area and we had to cut our evening shorter than we would have liked, but please don't let that turn you away from this beautiful facility. I would recommend that for a nominal fee, post-event clean-up services be provided. Overall, the value was tremendous.
Our photographer was thrilled with the venue, and took lovely pictures of us on the outside turret and on the beautifully landscaped lawn. The staff was present and actively engaged in supporting our event the entire evening. The gorgeous evening light coming in through the large windows of the courtroom, the good quality sound system, and the amazing flexibility of seating and table arrangement gave me the wedding of my dreams in this historic building. I highly, highly recommend the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse to all brides and wedding planners seeking a unique local venue for their events.

While they have a big room upstairs for larger groups, my husband and I got married in a downstairs meeting room. It was perfect for our 20 person event. The chairs were set up when we got there and all we had to do was get married. :)Sent on 03/31/2009

I would definitely recommend the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse as a wedding or event venue. The staff is very friendly and easy to work with. The room set up is very flexible and they can do it how ever you want it. The process they have in place to work with you is very thorough and I felt confident every step of the way. There is some tedious paperwork required of each vendor you are utilizing, which was challenging, but I understand why they have to have it. It was easy to load decorations, bar supplies and glassware in early and they were kind enough to help us out with some difficult scheduling. I was very happy with my wedding venue.Sent on 03/26/2013

Let me just say my wedding day was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The weather, the ceremony..EVERYTHING turned out simply elegant. In the beginning stages of my wedding planning, we stumbled across GHC and absolutely LOVED its charm. We actually broke our lease with Vecoma on the Yellow River to have our ceremony and reception here at GHC. Initially, I found the staff (ladies) to be quite abrupt and sometimes outright rude. But, the more we chatted, the better they got. We had absolutely no complaints from any of the staff. They even honored some last minute request a couple of days before our wedding. Renee really worked hard to make me feel at ease. Though shes a tough cookie, in the end, she will make sure you are happy! Our wedding took place on the best day in April! Thanks GHC staff!Sent on 05/14/2013

Excellent place, especially if you have family in the military. Veterans museum is a bonus. Staff made suggestions for set-up which helped. Basement storage was a great option and time saver since we could store all our stuff the day before. The room was set-up with tables and chairs when we got there, the only thing left to do was put out pictures, wait for the florist to deliver flowers and the bakery to arrive with the cake. The staff took care of the tablecloths and chair covers before and after the wedding.Sent on 04/08/2013
The balcony is a great place for pictures.
No on-site parking. Guests parked in the garage 1 block away. They dont allow cooking (we were going to have a sautee station), so we had to change to a different menu, but it wasnt really a big deal.

For the most part my husband and I were satisfied with the service we received for the price of the courthouse. The week of our wedding there was some type of mix up and the venue booked over our rehearsal time creating quite a frenzy and we had to change the rehearsal time the day before. Despite that, the supervisor Renee was very accommodating and we worked it out. I think there is a lot of miscommunication within the venue- co-workers not communicating with eachother. Also I think there should be more training on the "new systems" when they are implemented. The new system was the main reason for the rehearsal mishap, along with a few other issues. All in all everything turned out beautiful and we are happy with how well everything turned out for our special day.Sent on 03/07/2015

I had my wedding here last week. The booking process was easy. I found it a little disruptive to work with different people on each visit. I felt like we did a lot of re-explaining what we wanted, how we wanted things set up, etc. But I do understand making sure that anyone who may be working on your day is aware of what you want.Sent on 06/13/2013
There were a few things that kept me from giving the Courthouse a perfect score. During our 60 day appointment I was given a list of rules for the venue. This was fully expected. One of them was no flower petals. I asked for clarification and I was told they were difficult to clean up outside and that they could stain the hardwood floors. I asked if the petals could be used on the tables and I was told they could. On my wedding day, they asked members of my family to remove them from the tables.
We scheduled our rehearsal at our 60 day appointment. We were having our ceremony and reception in the ballroom. For some reason, my rehearsal was booked for the gazebo. The lady working that evening apologized and let us in when I banged on the door, but a week before my wedding, I was not amused with miscommunications.
Overall, my day was beautiful. The few hicups we had in the planning process and the day of are easily overlooked in hindsight.

Awesome and wonderful place. Staff was very helpful. Having a wedding in the winter time - it is perfect with all the beautiful Christmas decorations. Great dance floor with all guests having the ability to have a beautiful view. If you open the windows, the sunlight is so beautiful the way it lights the room. It was kind of awkward having the DJ where a judge usually is but it works and makes it even better.Sent on 01/22/2016

The venue is unique and beautiful, however, there are too many rules. My vendors had to sign 2 different liability papers, as well as provide proof of insurance. This got to be a hassle for me and for my vendors, as many of them were confused since they never had never been required to do so before.Sent on 09/18/2012
The day of my wedding, the two ladies assigned to "monitor" our wedding were sweet but definitely messed things up. For some reason, they told my bartender to give last call at 10:30 PM when alcohol was suppose to be stopped being served at 11:30 PM. So even though I had rented the facility until midnight, my guests took that as the party being over.
Just be careful when renting the facility. If you want a large, long, festive wedding, this place is not it.

The price for the venue is expensive in comparison to other venues. There are very strict rules on decorating for the wedding and Gazebo rental is totally separate from renting the courthouse. I paid over $2,000 for my reception and Gazebo wedding. This only provides you with tables and chairs inside and white folding chairs outside. It was so hot outside I decided to move wedding indoors and still paid for gazebo rental and chairs. Shop around because for that price you can find other venues comparable to the price but with more amenities.Oh yeah you do get a kitchen with a microwave. ;) There is no wait staff or any staff period. My day was still wonderful because we made it that way and nothing made the day bad.Sent on 08/03/2010

I was first drawn to the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse because of it's southern charm and beauty. I also liked that it offered reduced rates for Gwinnett county citizens and reduced rates for weekdays, and that you could use your own caterer. This was a great way of cutting costs because most venues require you use a specific caterer. Although the beauty of this venue was remarkable, the quality of the staff was very disappointing.Sent on 07/16/2010
I have been dreaming of my wedding day, like most girls, since I was very young. I had huge fairytale dreams and the staff was very difficult to work with. One employee specifically, was incredibly rude and inflexible. The services that were supposedly included in my contract were completely ignored. For example, the bathroom was supposed to be stocked with toilet paper and paper towels. It was completely empty forcing my mom, on my wedding day, to go buy such items. I had also requested 2 tri-fold mirrors for my dressing room which were listed as items available on request, two weeks before the wedding. On the wedding day there were no tri-fold mirrors present. There was one mirror that was 3 feet long and about a foot wide. What really bothered me about this was that no one bothered to tell me. If an employee would have called me and said, "our mirrors are missing and we do not have them available for your wedding day" I would have been much more pleased. I would have gladly brought my own mirrors. What bride wants to put on her wedding dress and veil and have no full length mirror to look at? This was the biggest disappointment and a prime example of terrible customer service. Finally, we used the venue's chairs. Another, big mistake. They were arranged incorrectly and filthy. Thank goodness I had a wedding coordinator who said that we would not pay for these chairs if they remained dirty, which encouraged the staff to actually do something and clean them.
My wedding was beautiful. My pictures are amazing. But it was an incredibly difficult process because of the incompetent staff. Never have I been more disappointed with customer service. If you choose to use this venue be upfront with the staff in the beginning. Stand up for what they promise you, get everything in writing, and don't settle for what they give you. It is YOUR day, you are paying A LOT of money, and they should honor their contract and advertised services.

We had our wedding booked there for about a year in advance. I found out about 4 months before my wedding that they had booked a rehearsal only 30 min before the start of my wedding. It was actually booked while my upstairs rental was active... This meant we would be sharing the property! I went to complain about the mix up and ask if they could add more time to the end of our rental if her event pushed mine later. They told me " it is our venue and we can rent it out how we like and will not give you more time" they then told me they hoped I would find another venue so they didn't have to deal with someone who was so unreasonable. I am by no means a Bridezilla but I did feel like they had double booked our events (every other venue I have talked to agrees with this) I was talked down to, repeatedly insulted and treated like my event was less important because it was smaller and bringing them less revenue.Sent on 03/19/2013
I know most brides are thinking "it's the cheapest place in town" but when you factor all your linens, chairs, bartender set up, fees you pay to have someone clean up, fees for a police officer, fees for "processing" and all the other hidden fees.... THEN factor in that you will do all your set up yourself, the major restrictions on all the vendors you choose, the lack of privicy the venue provides and the Absolute rudeness of the female staff (the actual people you will be dealing with day of) then you'll find that it IS NOT WORTH IT!
We ended up breaking our contract and going with the Yancy House and we LOVE them! They dont charge for chairs or linens and have no hidden fees. We even saved $1,000 and the hassle of doing all the set up! I lost half my deposit plus a BS 26$ processing fee but it was well worth it not to have to have my wedding at the Courthouse!
