Wedding Photography in Richmond

I can’t say enough good things about my experience working with Jake and Julie for my wedding. From the very first interaction with Jake, I could tell he was professional and also very knowledgeable. I’ve never planned a wedding and let him know I didn’t have a whole lot of specific photos I wanted, and he explained all of his services and sent me an agreement in a very timely fashion. Now that the wedding is over and I’m reflecting on my experience, I can safely say that Jake and Julie were the best part of my wedding. They were always working, interacting with guests and looking for more places to get great photos of my husband and me. Jake even fixed one of our groomsman’s suits (a button came off) and wrote in the one name on my seating chart that I didn’t have before I had to go to the venue. I highly recommend booking Jake to get incredible photos of your wedding, and if your budget allows, add the second photographer (if you’re lucky you’ll get Julie too)! I’m so grateful to both of them for helping me move through the day and getting so many great shots of people having fun! He also mentioned to me that they will travel, so if you’re not in the Richmond area, you can still book him! 🎉

Chayil is heaven sent!!! She is beautiful both inside and out, and her artistry is amazing!!! I highly recommend her for your wedding!!! 100% Her keen eye and creativity are unmatched. She did an outstanding job for my son and daughter-in-law this past weekend 11/01/25. She captured moments in the bridal suite and also with the groom before the ceremony, gave a few sneak peeks as she snapped and curated the photographs too! She was professional and very easy to work with, with a fun personality. It felt like she was part of our family, everyone loved her, and so did I. Jenny was SO amazing to work with! From initial conversations, to hiring, to engagement photos, to the wedding day, she made us feel comfortable and confident and was so easy to work with! My fiancé and I were so nervous to have the camera on us for engagement photos, but she immediately made us feel at peace and we had so much fun with the shoot. I suggested some fun creative photos she’d never done before and she fully embraced the challenge, and nailed it! Our wedding day was no different! She came to us ready to hit the ground running, nailed every shot, and even went with the flow when things took more time or less than than we had originally planned for. She listened to us about the shots and photos that were most important to us, and recommended things to make sure to get or things that might not photograph as well. All this to say, she’s been amazing to work with and cannot wait to work with her for future photography needs! Jenny is now traveling around the US full-time and can not only do wedding in Richmond, VA but anywhere in the US…so lock her in immediately!

Frank and his team guided me through our engagement shoot flawlessly. I was nervous on how our photos would turn out since my fiancé hadn’t taken photos since his senior year in high school, but they turn out FABULOUS! 10/10 recommend SohoPhoto’s for you next photoshoot!

Myles was our photographer for our wedding at the VA Living Museum and she exceeded our expectations (which were already high after looking through her website)! She really captured the joy of the day in such an artful and unique way. The film pictures were a particular highlight, so beautiful and elevated beyond your typical wedding photos! Myles was able to incorporate the natural landscape of the museum grounds into the photos as well. I usually feel pretty awkward getting my picture taken but Myles and her husband Chris made us and our family feel so comfortable there was no awkwardness at all! It was a privilege to work with Myles!

Leah is amazing and we would recommend her highly. She is responsive and talented, and she captured many special moments on our wedding day. What stands out most with Leah is her ability to connect with her clients on a personal level and put people at ease during her shoots - this led to many memorable photos for us. Her day-of team was also excellent.

Alysa and Andrew were absolutely phenomenal photographers and people. Working with them was an absolute delight, and the pictures were of amazing quality. They were professional, personable, flexible, and extremely responsive. They regularly contacted us to make sure everything was okay leading up to the wedding, and they always responded to our inquiries extremely quickly. They had a vast number of unique poses and ideas for photos that collectively created a truly wonderful album. They were also very accommodating when our timeline ended up a little later than anticipated, while still managing to get every single photo we asked for. We would and do highly recommend Alysa and Andrew for anyone in search of a pair of wonderful photographers to capture their special day. :)

From the moment we found Michael and Laura, we knew they were something special. We came across them while looking through blog posts from weddings at our venue, and there was one photo in particular that completely stopped us. It was a shot no other photographer had captured—even though many of them were regulars at the venue. When we met with Michael and Laura, we were shocked to learn they had only photographed one wedding there. Their ability to see and use a space with such a creative, artistic eye is truly incredible. That creative vision really stood out on our wedding day. There’s one moment in particular that perfectly sums them up. While taking photos at the top of the stairs with the venue behind us, I asked if we could turn around to get the hydrangeas in the background. They happily did it, no questions asked. But when we got our gallery back, I realized their original idea—the one they saw—was so much stronger. That photo is now one of my absolute favorites. That’s what makes Michael and Laura so unique: they see things you don’t even realize you want until you see the final result. From our very first meeting through our engagement session and wedding day, Michael and Laura were easy to talk to, bubbly, positive, and genuinely kind. They make taking photos truly fun, and they were incredibly organized and on top of our tight timeline due to daylight savings. Because of them, all of our photos were completed before the ceremony, which allowed us to enjoy cocktail hour with our guests—such a special and unexpected treat. Throughout the day, they brought the calmest, kindest presence. During portraits, they were upbeat and confident, guiding us through every pose—right down to where to put our thumbs—while constantly reassuring us that we were doing great. But then, during the ceremony and reception, they seamlessly faded into the background, never intrusive, yet somehow capturing every meaningful detail—including moments we didn’t even realize they were there for. One of the most incredible surprises happened during our cake cutting when they pulled out an iPad and said, “Want to see?” They already had edited sneak peeks ready for us that night. They even set the iPad on the bar so our guests could see them. In all the weddings we’ve attended, we’ve never seen photos the same night—and they were stunning. The full gallery came back quickly as well and exceeded every expectation. The level of care and intention they put into their work is next-level. And their thoughtfulness didn’t stop after the wedding. Around Christmas, they sent us their Christmas card along with a jigsaw puzzle made from one of our wedding photos. It was so unexpected and incredibly meaningful—we absolutely loved those extra touches and details they added in. From the moment we booked them, we felt supported. They sent emails with a ton of helpful information, and regularly checked in and made us feel cared for the entire way. Michael and Laura are not only unbelievably talented photographers, but truly wonderful people. Hiring them was one of the best decisions we made, and we will cherish our photos—and the memories of working with them—forever. 💛

I don’t even know if I have the words to say how amazing Monica is. She’s worked with us for almost 2 years with our elopement in 2020 and our renewal on October 16, 2021. She’s friendly, kind, funny, responsive, organized, helpful, and overall amazing photographer. I’m so sad to not have a wedding anymore and not work with her. Absolutely highly recommend 🥰

Jami was absolutely amazing. We loved the chance to work with her before the wedding during our complimentary engagement session. It really gave us a chance to get to know her better, and she got to know us too! We knew that the photos from our big day was something we were willing to invest in, but choosing Jami meant that we didn't have to break the bank to get amazing pictures! During the entire planning process, Jami was super helpful and organized and answered all of our questions in a timely manner.
