About

The Tillerman Inn & Restaurant is a comfortable wedding venue located in Bristol, Vermont. This inn dates back to the 1790s, but has been thoughtfully restored to include the latest conveniences while honoring its roots. Great care has been given to even the smallest detail, creating a venue for your milestone that feels like home.

Facilities and Capacity

At the center of events at The Tillerman Inn & Restaurant is the barn. This structure is over 125 years old and sits amongst trees, flowers, and various outbuildings for a rustic touch. During the summer months, the gardens will be filled with color and life. The swimming hole is perfect for a refreshing dip on particularly hot days. In the fall, surround yourself and your loved ones with autumnal charm thanks to the apple trees and sugar maples. Receptions can also be held in the shade of an elegant marquee, giving you the choice of splitting your time between indoors and out.

Services Offered

Bristol, the area surrounding this venue, is known for the warmth and hospitality of its people, and the inn is no exception. You'll be welcomed like family and instantly put at ease, so you can relax and focus on making memories. The wedding package from this property includes a range of features, like tables, a bar station, Adirondack chairs, and Sonos speakers in the barn. An arch was built for outdoor ceremonies and strung lights inside the barn will add some whimsical illumination.

Cuisine

The Tillerman Inn & Restaurant places an important focus on the food at every celebration. The catering team loves being able to support local farmers, makers, and cultivators through their fresh, seasonal dishes. Each meal is also planned with the environment and community in mind so that every bite can be as thoughtful as it is hearty. Cooking will be transformed into a sort of entertainment for your guests, as the venue's preferred style combines live-action cooking with self-service. Food will be artfully arranged and presented, reflecting all of the care that has gone into sourcing and preparing it.

The Tillerman Inn - the most special place

The Tillerman is a special place, and Kate and Jason are special people.

We discovered the Tillerman during a winter trip to Vermont, and it immediately became the one and only wedding venue on our list. If you’re looking for Vermont farmhouse vibes with modern decor, beautiful gardens, green spaces, and cozy little nooks, this could be the venue for you.

Our wedding day, like many other couples’, tops our list of best days ever. No small part of that was the effort put into it by the Tillerman and their staff. To start, they made recommendations for several of our vendors, including our day-of coordinator and live musician, both of which were fantastic. The planning was easy, the Tillerman was flexible, and our point people Mackenzie and Merel were responsive, made excellent suggestions, and worked perfectly with our coordinator to make the day happen, with special touches along the way.

THE FOOD: When I think of wedding food, I am often resigned to the reality that the meal will disappear into history as yet another average piece of chicken. But not a damn day goes by that I don’t think about the meal Justin, the head chef, and his team made for us OUTSIDE over A FIRE. Every single bite across the table was a delicious, tasty treat - and I regret only bringing home three containers of leftovers. I am a better, smarter, stronger person for having had that meal, and I sit more comfortably in this world knowing that my wedding guests are still talking about that chicken. We care a lot about food, and this food cared back.

If you’re like us, then this is the perfect place for you.

Intimate Tillerman Wedding

My husband and I hosted a small wedding at the Tillerman in their "Summer Kitchen," with our families, and we cannot express enough how great everyone was. The setting is gorgeous, no matter the season, the food is exceptional, and everyone there made us feel incredibly special!

Our Best Wedding Decision!

My husband (!!) and I are so happy to have found The Tillerman to host our wedding. If you're looking for a venue with a more unique and relaxed vibe than the cookie-cutter status quo, this is it! The Tillerman has a cozy and bespoke feel, while offering a gorgeously appointed inn and grounds to wander. Big perks included having our immediate families able to stay at the inn with us, The Tillerman's ability to coordinate and host our rehearsal/welcome pizza party, reception, and Sunday brunch, and having the food and bar services all in-house was amazing. More important than any of that, however, is the peace of mind we had knowing that we were in very capable hands. From the early planning stages to the Sunday morning send-off brunch, I couldn't have dreamt of a better team to have execute our wedding weekend.
Working with Kate, Jason, Chef Justin & Merel was a delight- they made it a fun experience and I truly miss chatting with them regularly! I never doubted that we were on the same page, they were able to pick up on our vision and bring it to life for an unbelievably fun weekend. Kate, coordinator-extraordinaire, always answered all of my frenzied (and sometimes outlandish) questions in her calm, cool, and collected way. I knew it would be smooth sailing under her keen eye! Her husband, Jason, who oversees the beverage services (amongst many other things) was a blast to choose our drinks with. We love natural wines and we were able to put together an incredible selection to serve, alongside a thoughtful curation of beers and cocktails. Chef Justin served up the wedding food to end all wedding food- his outdoor cooking, seasonal + exciting vegetable dishes, pizza, and straight-up charisma blew everyone away! Merel was invaluable in the days leading up to the wedding and throughout the weekend, she managed everything that popped up with ease and was so fun throughout the process!
The Tillerman is all about the small, meaningful details which really shone throughout the event. Everything felt intentional and well considered, coming together into pure magic. The property itself is beautiful (the creek provides a great photo backdrop!), and reveals many different areas to enjoy which we utilized for our various different wedding festivities. Once the sun went down, it was lovely having the bonfires ablaze and sitting around them making memories until the wee hours. Our guests constantly remark to us how at ease they felt at the wedding- many of them now planning their own trips to stay at The Tillerman. I can't recommend them enough for your special day (or weekend!)!

hello, we are kate and jason, your hosts here at the tillerman. we have been dreaming up this place for much of our lives and after all these years it has finally taken shape, we can’t wait to show you around! we are somewhere in our 40s and have spent the last 20 years in northern california working in restaurants, sustainable agriculture, catering, and hospitality. during our time there we made countless trips to farmers markets, cooked and hosted events all over the bay area, washed plenty of dishes, obsessed over chicories and stone fruit, shucked 1,000's of oysters, popped and poured wine for the masses, collected beautiful bowls and read cookbooks like novels.

now we’re here in vermont, with our two boys, ready to do it all over again.

while not “working” you can often find jason tinkering with old parts or researching barrel saunas. kate will likely be frustrated with technology of some sort or catching up with an old friend.
