About
AUSTIN wedding harpist Susan Haas is available to play for weddings and special events throughout Central Texas and The Hill Country. With over 25 years of professional experience playing the solo harp, she is able to provide a seamless musical backdrop for your special day. Always adding to her repertoire, including current radio hits, she plays classical, jazz and broadway standards and pop music from "oldies" to today's favorites. With a free consultation, she will help you simplify the task of choosing music for your ceremony or reception. If there isn't printed music for a particular request, Susan can transcribe for the harp just for your occasion. Although her specialty is solo harp, she also plays with backing tracks for an upbeat, full band sound. She also collaborates with other musicians to create a duo/ trio/quartet or to accompany a vocalist of your choosing.
She provides her BOSE sound system with every booking, provided you want a tasteful boost to the sound and have access to power.
Originally from Texas, she studied with Julia Hermann Edwards (Southern Methodist University) and Gail Horne Barrington (The University of Texas, Austin). She has played professionally in Texas, North Carolina, Colorado and Washington, D.C. The bulk of her career has been in the Chicago area delighting audiences at venues such as The Drake Hotel, The McCormick Convention Center, and The Four Seasons. She made the Pacific Northwest her home for twenty years where she particularly enjoys the lovely evergreen venues around the Sound and in the Cascades and performed at venues such as The Arctic Ballroom, The Fairmont, Bell Harbour Convention Center, McCaw Hall, Sodo Park/Herban Feast, De Lille Cellars and many more. She was best known as the Seattle Airport Holiday Harpist, playing 12 hours a day during December in the large atriumed dining hall inside security for literally thousands of holiday travelers.
Now back in Austin, Texas she is happy to play indoor or open air events wherever she can travel with her concert harp (or one of her two smaller harps, if you prefer, or if it's on a boat!)
She also performs with the occasional stage orchestra for performers. Artists she has shared the stage with include Frank Sinatra, JR, Michael W Smith and Amy Grant, Roberta Flack, Peabo Bryson, Jeffrey Osborne and Anita Baker.

Susan is the consummate professional who's skill is abundantly apparent. Her flexible attitude and friendly personality make her ideal to work with. My particular experience with Susan had challenges of transportation and rain and she handled it and performed beautifully. It was the first time I've ever seen the harp played in the middle of the forest, and it was done exceptionally well.
