This historical estate provides a valuable insight into life as a wealthy family living in 18th century Connecticut, showcasing numerous artifacts and items from the time. The original structure was built in 1761 and was later sold to Oliver Phelps. Phelps added a substantial wing to the house in 1741 and had wallpaper imported from Paris to decorate the new addition. The house passed to the Hatheway family in the early 1800s, who collected a stunning array of items that now provide historical insight into their lives and the times they lived in. The property is now part of the Connecticut Landmarks, who lovingly maintain and preserve this amazing piece of history.
The Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden is located in Suffield’s Historic District and is conveniently located just a 10-minute drive from the Bradley International Airport, making it a perfect location for out of town guests to access.
