About

A timeless and elegant wedding venue in San Diego, The Abbey on Fifth Avenue is a historical cathedral that boasts unique decor and romantic event spaces for your perfect day. This is a full-service venue with both ceremony and reception spaces available.

Facilities and Capacity
The impressive decoration in The Abbey’s interior will make your day unforgettable. With 50-foot cathedral ceilings, colorful stained glass windows, polished redwood molding and woodwork, and stunning fixtures suspended from the ceilings, you will be transformed into a Renaissance feel with this classic decor. For your ceremony, couples may host up to 175 guests. In the reception space, couples may host up to 300 guests.

Services Offered
Your ceremony will include white aisle runners, two altar candelabras, table for unity candles, one-hour rehearsal with coordinator and one-hour ceremony time. As for your reception, you will have every detail taken care of, from the flowers to photography, entertainment and more. The Abbey on Fifth Avenue is a private special event facility managed by City Experiences, two-time recipients of the finest service award. Some services and event items include:

Cuisine
The Abbey on Fifth Avenue and City Experiences created five menu package options to choose from. They are also happy to customize your wedding menu to reflect your tastes. The Grande Package is a very elegant menu, combining traditional and California cuisine. Gabriel’s Package offers a food station option, featuring three stations ranging from chicken, salmon and steak, as well as hors d’oeuvres and dessert. Option three is the Balboa Package, using local, organic and seasonal ingredients for a delicious menu. The Horton Reception Package is the next option, inclusive of tray-passed appetizers and a seated salad and entree option. The final option is the Fifth Avenue Package, a Mediterranean-style buffet with menu selections such as New York strip loin, chicken breast, penne pasta, tomato and mozzarella, grilled vegetables and much more.

Other Services
The Abbey also uses their professional experts to offer additional services, if couples choose to utilize them. One option is the Classic or Elegant wedding service, which includes things like a red carpet arrival, colored napkins, regal chair covers and sash. Other services include:

Unique Beauty

Loved this place! Kristi, Kelly & the whole staff where awesome. The venue is an absolute rare jewel & the food was incredible (the BEST filet mignon!). I got many compliments on this venue as everyone loved it!

Dream wedding venue!!

My husband and I recently got married here in October, and I can’t say enough wonderful things about this venue. Truly a hidden gem in Banker’s Hill right next to Balboa Park!

If your vibe is historic, victorian, classy, elegant…this is the space for you. The stained glass, molding, etc were breathtaking. I can’t tell you how many compliments we recieved. We brought in draping and dramatic florals to play off the venue, but truthfully the venue is so beautiful you could go without.

Additionally, the staff was 10/10! Our contact, Nicole, was so great and responsive. I can’t tell you how many questions I threw her way 😂 and she always went out of her way to help us organize the perfect event. The food was superb! Somestimes wedding food isn’t thaaat great but their team is on it. Full open bar throughout the evening, plus welcome champagne for everyone. All a great price, especially with everything included. Again, great venue! Def recommend!!

We had our wedding and reception here on 6/10/17. I can not say enough good things about The Abbey! It is definitely a hidden gem! At first I wasn't sure about it from the pictures on the website, but we fell in love with it when we visited the first time. It's so unique and we loved the historical feel to it- it's a beautiful and different venue, which is exactly what we wanted! Our guests LOVED it too, and so many of them came up and were asking how we found the place and commenting on how great of a venue it was. Kelly Rossi was so great with answering all my emails over the 1+ year after we had booked it, and Kristi Bryant was also very friendly and helpful! We also loved how all the staff (floor manager, servers, bartenders, etc) were so professional and did an amazing job with treating us and our guests so well throughout the whole wedding and reception. They also did a great job with my milk allergy, which I was very worried about! I am extremely allergic to milk or anything dairy, but they did an amazing job with putting together an allergen safe menu for me, watching cross contamination, etc. We loved everything about The Abbey and can't say enough about it! It was also surprisingly reasonable in price and definitely seemed much more expensive than it actually was. The food was delicious (we got so many compliants from our guests too), and the bar package was great as well! Both of which were very reasonable in price. Our guests (and us!) are still talking about The Abbey and how great our wedding was- Our wedding day would not have been the same at a different venue. Thank you for making our wedding day perfect!

The Abbey was a dream to work with. Kristi Bryant was a joy to collaborate with on our reception. She was straight forward and always eager to listen to what we needed, even we weren't sure what that was. The quality of the food was outstanding and the service was really top notch. I would do it all over again with them in a heartbeat.

The Abbey was beautiful and elegant the perfect location and ambiance for our reception.
The food was exceptional and am still receiving comments of how beautiful it all was.

Kristie was wonderful in helping us set everything up and go through the planning. Our reception turned out as well as i had imagined and would make the same decisions again and again. It was a gorgeous evening and truly my favorite day !!

The Abbey was my location for my reception. I loved the venue, it was absolutely gorgeous. The day of the wedding, there were so many amazing staff members that helped us with everything. They were very kind, accommodating, and very good service. I think we got a really great deal for our wedding, I am very happy with everything. They did everything we asked for and more. I would say, overall, They are very professional and experienced.

My wife and I absolutely loved having our wedding reception at The Abbey. The venue was so amazing. It's so much more dynamic than a hotel conference room and adds a really unique touch. The architecture of the building alone makes it a classic. The inside is so amazing. The lighting, the different level of floors and the general layout all added up to make our wedding so perfect. We had many friends and family say that it was the best wedding they had been to, and i believe at least 50% of that was because of the abbey. The food was also amazing. And for the price, relative to big name hotels and other artistic venues, the appetizers and food were very good. The only gripe i had was the lady who was assigned to our evening was a bit rude. We wanted to add a projector that we brought and the lady acted like it was the end of the world. Also, at the end of the night the lady was very rude telling people to leave. They promptly had us out of there at 10 PM, which is understandable because that was the end per our contract, it was just the manner she told guests to leave which left us a little upset. Overall, the venue is amazing, dealing with the contract was easy, it was just the lady that was assigned to our wedding that was the only negative.
