About

Originally founded 180 years ago, St. Joseph’s Villa is not only the longest continuously operating non-profit children’s organization in the nation, but also a truly breathtaking setting for hosting your wedding day. Boasting an 82 acre campus with stunning architecture, this location will ensure that your big day is truly unforgettable. A charming Romanesque Church -- originally constructed in the 1930’s -- provides a lovely backdrop for both grand and intimate wedding days alike. This building makes an immediate impression, with a beautiful facade distinguished by an 81-foot bell tower that can ring out when you share your first kiss as spouses -- announcing your union to all of Richmond. Lovely architectural features reminiscent of an age long past -- such as graceful archways, stained glass windows, and decorative wall sconces -- characterize this church in such a distinctive way that little decoration is required. From its convenient location to its wonderful cause to its breathtaking appearance, St. Joseph’s Villa offers a truly singular place to say your “I do’s.”

My husband and I wanted the beauty of a traditional Catholic church (tall stained glass windows, painted ceilings, etc.), but we also wanted to be able to bring our own musicians, pastor, etc. St. Joseph's Villa fit the mold! It is a historically Catholic church, re-purposed as a public venue. All fees and proceeds go towards the Villa's programs and educational care - so, you're getting a great deal, getting married, and supporting a humble cause. There is plenty of parking, and we could not have asked for a more picture-perfect campus for photos. After the wedding, we had a number of our local guests reach out for Beth's contact info (so that they could book their weddings here!). I will say that the dressing rooms are very small (we had to bring our own mirror), but we only used the room for 15 minutes to slip into our dresses so it was not a huge concern for us. When we got married, the organ did not work. There was one functioning piano, which worked out just fine. Overall, I would highly recommend if you want a religious ceremony without the hassle that typically characterizes church rentals.

We chose to have our ceremony at St. Joseph's Villa because we wanted a beautiful church, but wanted to use our own pastor and have ample parking space for all of our out of town guests. This venue is a hidden gem of Richmond! They are easy to work with and the price is very reasonable. The only thing is that you will need to provide your own cleanup and sound if needed. You're renting the space only not other services. We were so pleased with the ceremony and everyone commented on what a beautiful chapel it is.

Beautiful and Affordable

The church is a beautiful space and one of the only non-denominational churches in Richmond that was within our budget! The colors inside are very vibrant and "old school Catholic". We ended up not decorating the inside of the church at all because of how much character it already had. Beth, who handles coordination for the church, was great and even helped us navigate an unexpected event which was planned for the same day as our wedding. It was extremely helpful to have keys/access to the church for the entire weekend. A few things to note: there is no sound system in the church if you plan to have music during your ceremony, and there is only one single stall bathroom for the church (keep in mind for long ceremonies or if you have guests driving from a far distance who may need the restroom prior to starting). Overall we had a great experience and plenty of space for our guests!
