Hey! I'm Kate! With my husband, Mike, I comprise MKM Photography--a duo of enthusiastic and nerdy wedding photographers based in Durham, North Carolina. We have a deep love for the weird and authentic in everyone: from tattoos and fandoms to every honest expression of emotion you can muster. We want to share in your excitement, quiet or loud as it may be, about all the love, joy, intimacy, colors, details, and everyday bits of magic that make up your life and your wedding. With a focus on moments and emotions over poses and “perfect” backdrops or expressions, our primary goal is always to create beautiful, authentic images that capture who you are: as individuals, as a couple, as a family. Our favorite people love hard and laugh deeply, own all the quirks and weirdness that make them real, value photography and its ability to tell a story that lasts.
All of our weddings and portrait session bookings include digital copies of all final, edited images delivered to you via online gallery download with a printing and usage rights release. Amazing proposal/engagement photography session!
Kate did such an amazing job photographing our engagement! She was so easy to work with, professional, and friendly. Kate worked with me beforehand to make sure we were all set up and prepared for the surprise, and things were very seamless on the day of.
During the engagement, she captured every moment perfectly, while ensuring we had ample time to bask in the special moments without any feeling of interruption. When we posed for some pictures shortly after, her experience shined as she gave easy suggestions for what turned out to be magnificent pictures.
After the engagement shoot, I was so impressed with the quality and breadth of photos that Kate captured. She also wrote up a wonderful blog post where her attention to every detail of the proposal was beautifully captured, and this was such a special aspect of our engagement which I hadn't originally realized she includes! Kate also had a really quick turnaround time on our pictures, which was much appreciated.
Overall I cannot recommend Kate and MKM enough for any of your photography needs!

Perfect photos!
Kate was awesome! She met up with us and helped figure out what we wanted for our wedding. She included an engagement photo op that also turned out stunning! Our wedding photos were fantastic - both photographers were flexible and had great vision in shaping different photo opportunities. They were able to capture the magical moments as well as more spontaneous ones! They were absolutely wonderful to work with - we would highly recommend!

Oh my. They were perfect.
We are still riding high from our experience with Kate and Mike and MKM Photography. We were drawn to them from their instagram and some rave reviews, but they didn't even begin to do them justice. From start to finish, they were prompt, professional, inclusive, FUN, and above all, so darned talented. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for their wedding photographers.

Wonderful Photography- Captured Our Day Perfectly!

Besides my husband, Kate was the best part of my wedding!
I stumbled upon Kate's work either through Reddit or OffBeatBride.com, and from the moment I landed on her website, I knew I had struck gold. While browsing through countless stylized albums featuring the typical wedding imagery, Kate's portfolio stood out like a breath of fresh air. Her photos captured real people, brimming with genuine joy in every frame.
From our very first interaction, Kate felt less like a hired professional and more like a cherished family friend. We spent hours chatting during our prep calls, which not only eased any pre-wedding jitters but also allowed her to truly understand our vision for the day.
On the day of the wedding, Kate and her assistant Tristian seamlessly blended into the festivities, effortlessly capturing every moment without intruding. But it wasn't just about snapping photos – Kate went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect. She even carved out time to capture a stylized HBO-showrunner family photo, a cherished memory we'll treasure forever.

Incredible Photos and Incredible People!
Kate is an absolute GEM! It was great to work with her for our engagement and wedding photos. It allowed us to get to know each other before the big day which led to a great day of experience. Kate and her husband Mike are a fantastic team and made sure we got the shots we wanted (and even some we didn’t know we wanted). We had an ambitious pre-wedding photo schedule so we could spend as much time as possible with our guests. Kate was flexible and helped to create a timeline that allowed our family and bridal party to spend time enjoying cocktail hour and the venue instead of posing for formal pictures after the ceremony. She is efficient and just the right amount of directive to help make sure the photos are ones you’ll want to share and print and post. We received sneak peeks the day after our wedding and an initial set of previews within just a couple of weeks. We can’t wait to get the full set to relive the best weekend again and again!

Working with MKM Photography for our engagement & wedding was an awesome experience from beginning to end! From our first consultation with Kate, we knew she was professional, thorough, and has an enthusiastic personality to boot. We immediately felt at ease and in good hands. As you can see from their website, MKM Photography is truly passionate and skilled. Providing a variety of settings and lighting, they beautifully captured our love for each other and nature.
We have a very large family and Kate made a point to gain everyone’s names and desired groupings in advance, making the day of go seamlessly! Not only that, but Kate helped us tighten our timeline and provided expert tips that were invaluable and so helpful. She is very communicative and sincerely gets to know the couple. Kate embraced any alternative ideas we had and provided a catalog of pictures that captured the story of our special day.
Kate & Mike are so down to earth and have the experience and knowledge that provides ease of mind. They truly provide stunning photos and are extraordinary to work with! We highly recommend MKM Photography for any occasion. We could not have been more pleased and thankful!

Best decision we made
There is no doubt in our mind that hiring MKM Photography was the best decision when planning our wedding. It would be an understatement trying to describe how seamless they made the day, Kate and Mike are such a fantastic duo! From the first time we met it was apparent how much they actually cared about getting to know us as people and as a couple which they used to help guide us through the wedding day. Kate is highly detailed, which showed in all her correspondence as well as her thoughtful questionnaires that let us communicate our vision for our wedding. Even when we asked a small question, she would provide every detail that we could need, including where the sun would be at that time of day and how that would influence our photos, very thorough. She was always available, responding to emails in under an hour or being available for quick phone calls whenever we wanted. What we valued the most was how honest Kate and Mike were with us when ideas we had became unrealistic or if there was no time in the schedule. They kept us grounded throughout the whole process. On the wedding night Kate even jumped on the dance floor for a song and saved the day with safety pins when the bustle broke. Lastly, the photos…AMAZING. Both of them did such a fantastic job at catching every moment from all angles and we hardly even noticed they were there. We cannot stop looking at the pictures, we love them so much. They are such fun people; we miss meeting with them regularly. Simply put, they are simply the best!

Amazing Natural Photos
Kate is the most amazing wedding photographer. She captured the essence of the day so perfectly. We wanted our wedding to have a casual go-with-the-flow vibe, and she was able to fit that style not only in the pictures, but in her interactions with us on our wedding day. We wanted to spend very little time being posed and staged, and she made it happen, and somehow caught these amazing pictures in a candid way. We hardly ever noticed her capturing our picture - so stealthy! We did our engagement pictures with her as well, which had the same clean, minimally-retouched feel that we wanted. I couldn't recommend her enough.
