The Community House is a historic wedding venue that is located in Winnetka, Illinois. Established in 1911, this non-profit organization has had a continuous impact on the North Shore community. Here, couples and their guests will be able to enjoy landscaped gardens and romantic hideaways. Vows can be exchanged in any season, among any of its three acres.
Facilities and Capacity
The Community House was designed by the architect Arthur Coffin. Arthur constructed the building in the Tudor Revival style, allowing that design to influence various factors throughout the estate. There are, however, additional elements of a prarie school-style found around the construction. Events can take place on the patio, lit up by soft bistro lights, or inside the Garden Hall. The Garden Hall has suspended drum lights as well as wainscoting on the walls. Couples can accommodate up to 200 guests at this indoor and outdoor venue. Wedding celebrations have the ability to transition from outside to inside, using the Garden Hall as a dancing area. Should it suit the event, the room can also be divided into two distinct spaces.
The Community House has an exclusive catering and event management company called Catered by Design. This caterer will not only help you with your menu but they will make sure your day is flawless from start to finish. They provide useful services such as setup, dinnerware rentals, linens, and cleanup. Catered by Design also offers visually appealing details such as floating buffets and hanging beverage trees. These added details combined with delicious food choices mean that events that they serve will always have a sense of sumptuous intrigue.
Couples can choose between hors d'oeuvres, a buffet, stations, or a plated meal. Cuisine ranges from American and Southwestern to Italian and Spanish. Sample entrees include roasted, French white truffle chicken breast; stout-braised short ribs; lake superior whitefish Acapulco; or saffron risotto cakes.
The Community House is located north of Chicago in the village of Winnetka, just by the shores of Lake Michigan. It can be reached via Green Bay Road, which runs parallel to Interstate 94. Should couples wish to retreat to a golf range, the Winnetka Golf Club is only a short jaunt to the west.

We had our dream wedding at Winnetka Community House. The patio is simply enchanting and the indoor space is beautiful as well. We wanted the vibe of our wedding to *feel* like a backyard wedding yet look polished/cohesive and that's exactly what we acheived with the help of the team at WCH. I will always remember dancing under the patio lights and stars on that warm July evening as our guests mingled between the cooler space inside, the dance floor, and the cozy community tables.Sent on 07/05/2018

We fell in love with the Winnetka Community House the second we visited the location for the first time! It's a big building with lots of activities going on when you pull up to the front - the last thing we thought we'd find attached to the back is a perfect North Shore reception space with a picturesque garden! Almost every guest at our wedding asked us "How did you find this space? We didn't even realize it was here!!!"Sent on 10/10/2016
They just renovated the indoor space at the end of 2015/early 2016, so everything looks new and fresh (even the chairs are new - no need for seat covers!). We were not looking for an outdoor space originally, but ended up moving up our wedding date to a warmer month just so we could be sure to take advantage of the charming, private garden. The French doors all along the reception space open up into the garden, making it a perfect location for our cocktail hour, additional photos, and just hanging out during the evening. We had 100 people at our wedding, and the space was the perfect size (they put up a fake wall indoors to make the room a tad smaller, so it didn't seem empty).
The Winnetka Community House exclusively works with Catered by Design for their events - which made the entire process so simple and easy. The person who showed us the space and walked through their wedding offerings, Nikee Fellows, actually works for Catered by Design but has her office in the Community House.
Keep in mind that the Community House does host a lot of events throughout the day (they have a gym, art classes, theater, etc.). So there may be some people in the hallway, bathrooms, and general vicinity of the reception room during your event (depending on the time you have it). The building was a bit crowded with kids when we first arrived before cocktail hour at 4pm, but by the time the band started playing and guests began arriving at 5:30pm everyone had emptied out and we had that portion of the building to ourselves - so no complaints on our part! :)
We absolutely love working here. It is beautiful and the staff is always great to work with. We can't say enough good things about this place.
We have been the exclusive catering and event management company at the Winnetka Community House for many years and we value our relationship with the entire WCH team. A more talented, dedicated and passionate team of professionals would be hard to find. The venue is absolutely beautiful and flexible in it's offerings and layout. Our clients are thrilled with the Arches Garden and we look forward to many more events at this historic and world class venue.
