About 5-12 Dessert Boutique & Lounge
5-12 Dessert Boutique & Lounge (founded in 2014) is the brainchild of mother-daughter duo Daneen & Tai Heath, who have set out to make their mark in the highly competitive dessert industry creating artistically designed custom cake and dessert creations that don’t just taste great, they’re a conversation piece.
Tai, a talented pastry chef and cake artist with a bachelor degree in Baking & Pastry Arts/Beverage Management from Johnson & Wales University (JWU) in Providence, RI has teamed up with mom (Daneen) who has a degree in Business Administration (Hospitality/Event Management) to make one sweet combination.
Obsessed with recreating the cake creations of culinary chefs on "The Food Network", at the young age of 14, Tai knew a career as a Cake Artist/Pastry Chef was in her future. By the age of 16, Tai's obsession would lead to her being sought after by teachers, family, and friends to make specialty cakes for special occasions. Shortly thereafter, through a connection with her high school volleyball coach, Tai would be highlighted in a WUSA9 News "Junior Ace of Cakes" feature story on high school athletes with unique talent. That same talent led to Tai being accepted to JWU with honors, led to an internship with Fluffy Thoughts Cakes in McLean, VA and eventually led to Tai experiencing an amazing opportunity to study abroad in Italy.
Proudly creating their edible works of art at the Mess Hall Culinary Incubator in Northeast Washington DC, the owners share commercial kitchen space with other aspiring entrepreneurs, 5-12 Dessert owners hope to use this as a stepping stone for opening a Art Deco/1920'-30s inspired dessert boutique & lounge much different than your typical bake shop in the near future.
