Couples will find this venue just a four-minute walk from Georgetown University and a 10-minute drive from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Facilities and Capacity
Couples can enjoy a wedding celebration with groups up to 125 people. Located in a renovated Federal house, this venue has four rooms where couples can dine with their guests.
The Middleburg Room can accommodate up to 56 people for a seated dinner. The room evokes images of the nearby Virginia hunt country. Architectural features of the room include a ceiling sheathed in barn siding from the New England countryside dating back to the 1800s, and massive beams from a post-and-beam home in Vermont. The bay window at the east end of the room overlooks 36th Street and residential Georgetown. The walls are partially covered with hand-planed pine boards and feature lithographs depicting colorful hunt scenes.
The Garden Room seats up to 18 guests. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the French doors on one wall let in extra light through the slatted shades. Floral prints on the light-colored walls give the room a light and delicate feeling.
The John Carroll Room captures the city's history with Currier & Ives prints from George Washington’s days as President, paintings and prints of Georgetown University, and early maps of the city. Beautiful antique furniture, silver and wooden early-American relics, and an elegant fireplace complete the setting. Although the restaurant is not open during the day, couples can host private brunches, luncheons, and daytime receptions using the John Carroll Room, which can seat up to 60 people or stand up to 90 people.
With its mahogany bar and tufted leather seating, the recently-renovated Bar & Club Room provides a welcoming lounge atmosphere that is more contemporary to the historical dining rooms next door. The entire space can be rented out for a private reception standing up to 125 people.
At the 1789 Restaurant, couples may host a bridal shower, engagement party, reception, or rehearsal dinner. The venue offers private rooms, the option of a customized menu, fresh-cut floral arrangements, and complimentary valet parking. I had a great time and everything went smoothly. The staff for the party had a fun, positive energy. The DJ (Reggie) was awesome- he listened to our needs/wants and really came through with a difficult task of mixing everything from salsa to country and a little R&B. The food was also really good. This is a great place for a party because it has the bar upstairs and the dance floor with some seating downstairs, so people can really mix it up. Highly recommended for partying.Sent on 10/29/2008
