Mini cakes as centerpieces?
Would this be crazy expensive? I would need 8ish.

I love the idea. You wouldn't need a huge wedding cake, so I would think you'd be combining your cake budget and your centerpiece budget. I don't know about price though :(

One bakery quoted me $25-$30 for each. It comes out to be about as much as getting a big cake for the same amount of people. I think it's a cool idea. I was going to do it until we changed our whole wedding around.

Depends on your budget but 8 mini cakes shouldn't cost as much as a wedding cake unless you mean a 6-8 inch round for each table then the price may add up.

I think I'm gonna do it, who doesn't like cake?! Thanks Amber, it helps to have an idea of cost.

Or if you were willing to skip the cake you could do mini towers of cupcakes. Then you could have a small cake for you and FH to cut, if you want.

These are cute centerpieces. You just need to add simple flowers or candles and your tables are done. not too cheap and it will get used.

I was actually going to do this till I thought about the fact that once people eat the cake my centerpeice is gone.. but is a great idea either way!! I priced mine through the women making my cake and she told me it would only be about #7 a cake.

I think that is an awesome idea!!! It certainly won't go waste and you may be able to get away with not giving favors out.... I would see how your family and fiance feel about it though (skipping the favors). You could even print out a little card or something to put with it "your drink" one that goes well with your cupcakes... You know how couples make their own "drink" for the night..... But def go for it, that is awesome!!!

I think it is great! If you can believe it my mother and father actually did it at their wedding and it was a HUGE it (I know kind of old school) What they also did is they had a fake cake made so they had the appearance of the big cake with the little cakes on the table. Downside..temptation eating the cake before dinner...mmm cake :-)

My cake lady does them she charges $35 per cake but her quality and decoration is outstanding. If you go smaller scale on the details it may be less but it saves money on the center pieces. I would do it!

If you look on my IB there is a pic of one that I had in mind. It is on glass pedestal with little flower petals around it.

I think the idea is great, and the mini cakes can be designed to match your theme very inexpensively. I had one bride save quite a few bucks..Good luck

I originally was going to do a bundt cake on each table as a centerpiece- just start baking them a few weeks ahead of time and freezing them!

My brother and sister-in-law did little cakes at their wedding...they had different cheese cakes at every table, at desert time the whole thing turned into a big desert buffet...it was fun wandering to all the tables to try the different flavors! Everyone loved it! and as an added bonus, it was cheaper than the big cake!
