Interracial Couples-lets talk Cake Toppers

Kriste, on July 30, 2012 at 1:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 35

I dont know about you guys but im having such a hard time finding a good looking cake topper! I am a white woman and my FH is an african american man. I have tried google nothing is coming up that my FH and I like. We had found one and purchased it from lightinthebox recieved it and had to return it because it was absolutely not what the picture described. The paint was messed up, the noses and eyebrows on the figures looked weird. It was aweful to say the least. So i got my money back and havent been able to find anything since. Any advice? Have you guys found anything? What are you guys using?

Yaaaah the cake toppers became such a headache that i looked into custom made ones. Problem is the custom made ones I liked were expensive and FH said HELL NO to the $175 topper (which I'm now glad he did lol) We ended up just ordering a blinged out initial topper, which goes perfectly with our decor scheme, for like $45 and called it a day Smiley smile

Kriste, here in Sarasota, we have LTM Party Supply (aka Life Time Memories). They have a large wedding dept. I know I have seen cake toppers where you can buy the man & woman separately (or 2 women or 2 men). They come in choices of Caucasian, African-American, and Latin (don't know that I've seen Asian). Then you place them together -- dancing.

We aren't interracial but i didn't like any of the toppers i saw. I would go with the letter. i thought about it. I ended up going with a white topper of two people intertwined but they had no faces arms or legs. It just looked like they were entwined. not sure how to explain it.

I think they all look cheesey though no matter your race.

Here's an Etsy listing where they make custom toppers, including dress, hairstyle, etc.

We went non traditional i find the tiny humans a bit scary...idk why! Smiley smile try something unique...like if you and fh both like ...idk snow shoe-ing get mini snow shoes to put on top or even something that fits your them...like if its peacocks get two of those to sit on top and have their tails/feathers draping down the side.

We are either going with initials think : j O d or just fresh flowers. How important to is it to you to have the little people? There are so many beautiful alternatives.

We went for a somewhat simple wedding so for me a cake topper was not in the top of my list of things we wanted. I kinda would've liked it w/ some green spider mums in the top now that the day's passed and I've got all these flowers around the house, but it looked good w/o a topper.

Getting a topper w/ people to look like us would've been near impossible anyways (I'm Caucasian and H is Indian). Have you thought about something theme-related , like little birds or flowers?

We simplified our life and just used fresh flowers instead of a cake topper. So much easier. A cake topper is one of those things I would have spent literally days online researching, probably $75 buying, and it's highly likely I would have forgotten to pack it. Smiley smile

Most couples that I have done cupcake towers for have been foregoing the traditional man and woman topper and going with flowers (either edible or non edible) or something else that matches the theme of their wedding. For my own wedding, even though we are of the same race, I find the people to be kind of creepy so we used a topper wit love birds on it. This might be an intance where it is a good idea to think outside the box

We are doing a letter S that's blinded out on the top. If you want figurines you may have to buy them separately and put them side by side :-/

Labake posted a good one, weddingcollectibles.com.

This came up on an amazon search:

They really aren't that hard to find, you just gotta google! And etsy is always a good resource, you can custom order just about anything.

Yep, I agree it is soooo hard to find a nice looking cake topper for us. As you can see in on pic I am white and my FH is African- American and Mexican. So after a long time of looking we finally went with a glass cake topper with our names becuase the cake itself will have the inital of his last name.
