Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to give the review zero stars, like I wanted to. I had stayed at Nichols Village many times from 2005-2009, because the company I worked for held some of their events at their location. So, I made reservations a few weeks ago for a weekend trip for several reasons....first, to visit the area (including the Poconos), and second, as I was considering the location for a possible wedding & reception.
My advice. Don't do it, find somewhere else, and you'll be much happier. Quick recap of problems I experienced just in a weekend's time:
1. Not the same hotel that I remembered from years ago.
2. It's dirty, and there have been no updates to the rooms over the years
3. Inconsiderate & irresponsible staff
4. plumbing issues
5. Not given the room I KNOW I reserved
6. Guys cooking & drinking in the parking lot
7. Overcharged me
8. Hold on my debit card for 2 weeks, with no explanation
9. Fantastic spa
We did not have our Wedding at Nichols Village, but my husband and I and all of our family and Wedding party stayed at the hotel, because it was close to our Wedding Venue. Check in was a disaster, no ones reservations were correct, one of my guests from 2 hours away called and asked if they would accept a check, she was told yes and when they got there they wouldn't accept it, they had to wait for their daughter to bring them a card to use. My in laws did not have towels or soap in there room, the elevators were never working, some people in my wedding party waited over an hour at the pool after they asked an employee for towels and eventually had to go to the front desk dripping wet in their bathing suits to get towels!!!! unacceptable. I sent 3 different contracts for the shuttle and they kept losing them and my credit card numbers were written on them! We were told the shuttle held 8-12 people only to find out on the day of our Wedding it only held 6 and some people had to drive themselves! So embarrassing. When we checked out we said not to charge the card on file, we were paying in cash and the guy went ahead and charged our debit card and then couldn't even tell me how much he just charged our debit card!!! We had a Wedding room block and when we got there they acted like they had never heard of us. There was another Wedding party there that the hotel put a sign up for to let guests know when the shuttles were leaving, we never got a sign (not a big deal just the point) The hotel is just a complete mess. The rooms were nice and clean but we will never come back and would NEVER recommend.
We had our wedding here on 9/26/15. Although it ended up to be a nice wed.ding it was extremely stressful getting there.
All in one type facility (salon, hotel rooms, ceremony & reception location)
Clean hotel rooms
Under-staffed and wedding coordinator was switched FOUR times in one year
Billing process was confusing and a manager could NEVER be reached
Constant stress because they were never on the ball
All in all, I would never recommend this place. Everything turned out OK, but that's because myself and my family put tons of work into it on the day of...do not chose this place if you want a stress free wedding planning experience. It seems there entire management team need to be re-vamped.
The staff was awesome the whole weekend and through out my 2 year long planning adventure!! I could not be happier!!
We only used this hotel for our accommodations and breakfast the day after the wedding. We had arranged transportation to and from the reception hall, but the hotel failed to provide it. They closed the pool (which had been the primary reason for choosing that hotel and an area we had reserved for a post-wedding get together) without informing us before the wedding, accused my wedding patrons of damaging things, and tried to charge us for 14 more people than had actually attended the breakfast afterwards. We never got the complimentary bottle of champagne. People got the wrong rooms. Some rooms were of poor quality (holes in the ceiling). The front desk had no clue what was going on at any time, at one point giving someone the wrong location of the wedding, not informing guests of possible transportation or the breakfast location. I guess we should have known earlier, when the hotel listed the wedding dates incorrectly and booked multiple guests for the wrong dates... Their events planner had the gall and lack of tact to blame me (the bride) the day before the wedding for issues with the transportation they were supposed to provide.
Artistic Elegance provided the hair and makeup for myself and my bridal party for my wedding. They simply did An amazing job!! I received so many compliments on my hair. My bridal party looked amazing thanks to the team at Artistic Elegance!!! A++++
My husband and I had a wonderful experience here! They worked with us from the beginning right through the end. One of the things I liked the most was that we only had to figure out one price per person!!! Their packages include many things like alcohol, food, and appetizers! It made things so much easier. We worked with Andrea. She was professional and attentive to everything we needed. She took care of the entire set up of the wedding so we were able to relax and enjoy the wonderful spa ALL morning! The food was excellent! I didn't have any of the appetizers but I had many compliments on them. The outdoor wedding venue was beautiful! The only downfall was that you could still hear the busy street near the hotel.
The spa was wonderful. The staff was friendly, professional and did a great job with hair and make up! I will definitely be going there for other services!
The Hotel made our wedding stress free and extremely fun!
We had our wedding at Nichols Village last week, 7/27/13, and it was incredible! It was way more then anything we could have imagined our selves. The staff from the front desk, to the waiters/bartender to the housekeeping - everyone was professional and friendly.
Amy, the wedding coordinator, went above and beyond any request we had. We planned our wedding out of state, from Florida, and it was never once hard to communicate with Amy. She responded to every email promptly and always took her time during phone calls to ensure she understood my exact request and to offer ideas for the wedding and reception. Our wedding was on the small side, about 80 guests. We had the ceremony outside in the court yard, followed by cocktail hour with signature drink and butlered hors d'oeuvres by the pool and finally the reception in the ball room. We are still getting compliments from guests on how delicious the food was. Amy made sure to put all the personal touches I provided while also expertly decorating the room with items Nichols already had.
At the end of the night we were greeted in our sweet with more champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and comfortable cloth robs. It was the perfect touch to end such a great evening. We highly recommend Nichols for your wedding, bridal/baby shower, etc.
Thank you so much Heather and Ed! It was such a pleasure to be a part of your wedding day!
So many wonderful things to say about Nichol's Village and especially Amy who helped us every step of the way. From the very first contact with her up to the very last second of the wedding day, she was pleasant, helpful and seemed excited to be a part of our big day.
There were some minor miscommunications with the banquet staff which resulted in us losing some pieces of our day, but when I contacted Amy about it, she very quickly tried to resolve the situation.
I can not recommend this venue enough! The bartenders and waitstaff were wonderful! The room looked beautiful! And again, Amy was amazing!
Thank you Angela! It was a pleasure to work with you!
Could not beat the price for what we got. Great food, beautiful room and loved the cocktail hour by the pool.
We are thrilled you enjoyed your wedding day with us!
The room we stayed in was beautiful and everything went very smoothly, everyone was so nice!!!
We had a wonderful reception for our wedding! From Cocktails around the pool to dinner and dancing, everything went smoothly. All our guests said that the food was fantastic. It was also very nice to have a room right there at the Inn so we could freshen up before cocktail hour and then stay right in the Inn that night. Amy was great to work with and helped us with every question and need. Community Bake Shop provided our cake as part of the package and it was exactly what we wanted and delicious.
Everything went perfectly. Everything ran smoothly. We couldn't ask for a better experience.
If your looking for results/answers quickly, they don't get back to you promptly if it's weeks before the wedding. They did seem to call back days before the wedding. The table linens were wrinkly & requested to have them ironed which seemed to be an issue. I wish Amy would have done a walk through with me the day before but she wasn't much for leaving her office. She just ran through a picture diagram she drew out. I'm one who wants to walk through and talk about everything. I got the feeling of being rushed therefore didn't feel much like working with. She's professional but sorta got a negative vibe from her. LOVED Jemma! The wedding was very pretty with the help of my mother & the food here is SPECTACULAR!!
Everyone had such a great time, it was a wonderful experience. Very very organized, I had nothing to worry about at any time throughout the day!
We had a wonderful experience with everyone at Nichol's Village! From the planning to the actual ceremony and reception Amy was professional, courteous and accomodating! Her flexibility right up until the morning of the wedding was amazing! The rest of the staff were wonderful and took care of everything for us! We had an amazing time and the wedding and so much of that was due to the efforts of everyone at Nichols! I would highly recommend them!
