If you don't mind the Police or Fire Department coming to your event and closing it down for operating illegally, go ahead and book this place. Wonder if the owners even have liability insurance to cover any claims of damages and injuries. What are they going to tell the insurance company, they are using a residential home as a event venue space for rent? I feel sorry for their neighbors because they have such greedy and selfish criminals living next to them.
The Farmhouse Mansion is an illegal business. That is why they don't have a alcohol license and you have to bring your own booze. The property owners are not responsible and are very selfish people who are bad neighbors. You cannot take a private residential residence and turn it into a business. Imagine your next door neighbor deciding to use their home as a restaurant or a night club. They lie to the police, the planning commission, and the fire department by claiming all these illegal parties are private events for friends when the owners are pocketing up to $6000. Spread the word. Don't condone such criminal activities.
We absolutely loved the venue (though it is unique, so may not be for everyone), and we really enjoyed working with Rick and Raquel. They are super nice, high quality people and were very responsive to and flexible with our needs. Things weren't 100% perfect (a communications mixup cost us a small amount extra on our rentals and other minor things), but were made up by them being very generous by giving us a bit of extra time onsite to help with our logistics, having lighting included, etc. Plus, some of the communication mixups were no doubt due to us having never thrown a wedding before. I would also concur with other reviewers...(1) the ability to bring in our own food and alcohol, and thus not incur markups, was in fact a major driver for choosing this venue, and (2) the natural beauty of the venue made paying for additional decoration much less important while also creating really great backdrops for photos. To the points about being a bad neighbor, I obviously can't speak for them, but one neighbor very graciously greeted us as we took pictures further up the hill with very kind congratulations after learning it would be taking place at the Farmhouse Mansion, and another very very kindly let our caterer use their driveway when it was determined that their truck needed a flatter slope. So......those neighbors seem to not mind...
Overall, it was a positive experience and I'd gladly recommend them to a friend.
I have hesitated to write a review for some time because we had such great memories of our wedding day. The first caveat, this is a private home, not an event space. Initially we had chosen the Farmhouse for its unique location and atmosphere. The difficulty lied in the fact that this is a private residence and the owners do not have preferred vendors that they work with, i.e., you must bring in all your own vendors and equipment if you're having a large event. We had a wedding reception of about 130 people, which went off well due to our organizing and the help of our outside vendors and family. We found the owners somewhat difficult to reach - The main communication was through an answering machine with a voice mail. Closer to the event it would have been helpful to have cell phone number. Also, we attempted to reach them after the event to pick up some forgotten items. There was no returned phone calls and we happened to stop by and catch them as they were leaving their home to claim our belongings. We would only recommend this venue if you're planning smaller uncomplicated event and if you don't mind that you're dealing with home owners, not professional event planners, and the extra responsibility that comes with that choice.
You couldn't ask for a better place to have your wedding or reception (or any party for that matter). The venue is so spectacular you don't even need to decorate. And you couldn't ask for nicer or more accommodating hosts. Parking can require a long walk uphill, so if you have older guests you might want to give them advance notice. Amazing venue!
We had our ceremony and reception at the Farmhouse Mansion in June, 2011. The Mansion, and the entire property was an amazing, beautiful venue for our wedding. The Mansion was also a great backdrop for our wedding photos: our photographer got many great shots of us and our guests inside the Mansion, and around the grounds, and awesome shots of the City from the upper balconies. Dr. Rick and Raquel were gracious hosts, and helped us with the planning, decorations, and set up on the day of our wedding. They were great help, and very generous with their time and ideas. They suggested we bring in our own alcohol, and helped us set up the bar, which saved us a lot of money. They also suggested Charlie's Catering. The service was great and our guests loved the food. Overall the Farmhouse Mansion was a beautiful, affordable venue for our wedding.
WOW!!! We had our wedding at the Farmhouse Mansion in June and it was absolutely stunning. We were trying to avoid the traditional (clichéd) wedding hall and it we found everything we were looking for at the Farmhouse Mansion. The venue is a historic landmark and has beautiful terraced gardens and sweeping views of the San Francisco skyline. Rick and Raquel were friendly and gracious hosts and were helpful throughout the entire process, offering suggestions and ideas so that we were able to pull off our wedding without a single hitch. Unfortunately, at the last minute there was rain in the forecast for our special day. Needless to say, we were totally freaked. Rick and Raquel ordered a tent and had it setup for us, which made our day much easier (though it turned out to be perfect weather and we didn’t even need it after all). They allowed us the flexibility to create our special day on our terms. We were able to use our own vendors and bring in alcohol (huge bonus!) which really kept the costs down so that we didn’t start off our marriage deep in debt. Most places require you to use their vendors who stick you with huge markups and hidden fees. (They recommended Charlie’s Catering which is just a few doors down from the Mansion—food and service were amazing!!!) The grounds are so lovely and romantic and made for GORGEOUS picturesque photos. The natural beauty of the home and gardens meant we needed to bring in very few outside decorations. The compliments keep rolling in from friends and family who said our wedding was a breath of fresh air from the tedious hotel or wedding hall event. We feel so lucky to have found the Farmhouse Mansion and that we succeeded in our goal of having a beautiful, affordable, and unique wedding in San Francisco. Thank you Rick and Raquel!!
The house is absolutely amazing for wedding ceremony and reception. It felt like being in a very special place of its own. You completely forget that you're still in the city. It's a very romantic place. Dr. Rick and Raquel are amazing hosts, very responsive and flexible and suggested excellent catering and ideas. I have only the best to say about the Farmhouse Mansion. It was the perfect choice for a moment that is meant to be special for the rest of your life, and it is also very affordable. It's also a prefect place for wedding pictures. When you see it you know it's the place you were looking for the wedding of your dreams at a cost that allows you to make it come true. For my special day it was the best and easiest choice I ever made.
