Julia Solo knew from the moment she got her first camera at age13 that she loved photography. Julia’s inspiration comes from family member who was an avid photographer and journalist and who helped flourish Julia’s passion for the camera. Friends also encouraged this pursuit as she spent many summers photographing childhood memories. As time passed, her enthusiasm grew leading her to eventually choosing photography as a life long career path.

Julia studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC where she graduated with a Bachelor’s in fashion illustration. She continued her education at the School for Visual Arts in NYC by taking several photography classes. Julia has worked for various visual production companies and has become a respected photographer with over 19 years experience in weddings, events, print and display, editorial pictures, headshots, portraits, children, interiors, travel and nature.

Julia’s interest in weddings developed over the past five years from her fascination in photographing people. She feels that every wedding is unique to the couple and a photographer’s shooting style should strive to document sensitive moments as well as incorporate different individual and cultural experiences. Her love of cinematography also helps her to anticipate and focus on intricate details in composition, expressions, movements, and unusual angles and lighting. Julia says, “The most challenging aspect is trying to anticipate and catch the unexpected moments. This is the trickiest part, but patience and diligence go a long way, and when you can capture the unexpected, it makes the most memorable photo.”

Julia prides herself on maintaining a discreet manner in order to prevent interruption of the flow of the event. She feels it is important for the photographer to stay in the background and remain unobtrusive. This then allows her to build a photo journal to mark the beginning of the marriage with powerful and passionate illustrations of what will be important to the couple.

Throughout Julia’s career in the industry, she has been surrounded by images. What is most exhilarating to her now is the ability for her to create her own ideas. Whether she is tracking a fleeting moment, an important event or setting up an artistic scene, her shots translate a delightful and aesthetic charm to the onlooker’s eye. This is something Julia aims for at every wedding and helps to continue her compelling work of pictorial storytelling for everlasting memoirs.
