Younger brother walking me down the isle? Anybody else in this situation?

Anonymous, on January 31, 2012 at 10:45 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

My parents have been divorced for 4 years now, Im not close with my dad because of what he's done to my mom and my brother and I , I dont want him at the wedding. So originaly i thought about having my fiances dad walk me down since we've been close, but i feel that it should be someone from my family i dont have any close relatives here in the U.S so im thinking about asking my brother to walk me down the isle who is 15 years old.

Who is walking you down the isle? do you know of anyone that had the brother walk them down?

I've personally never seen it, but I think it sounds wonderful. I agree that it should be someone from your family, because they are "giving you away." I think it would be very special and it should be whoever you feel best deserves that honor, which it sounds like is your brother. Have you asked him yet?

I'm having my brothers walk me down the aisle. My dad passed away when I was little and they've always been there for me. I think you should choose someone you are close to and comfortable with, and if your little brother is that person then that's all that matters.

I think it's a sweet idea. I don't have a relationship with my dad so I'm having my mom walk me down the aisle. If I had a brother, I might have considered him instead.

A few years ago my boss married his high-school sweetheart who had been previously married and had two children. Since her dad wasn't around, she had her son walk her down the aisle. It was lovely.

I definitely considered it. My brother is 17 and my best friend. I'm having my mom walk me down the aisle. My dad will be there, but he hasn't really been in my life. My brother and my mom were the only two realistic options I had, but in the end, my brother just isn't into sentimental stuff like that lol he's a typical 17 year old, what can I say.

I'd say go for it, I think it's a sweet gesture!!

I think you should go with whom ever you feel deserves to give you away. I had both my parents give me away. But for a short time I considered my brothers.

My father passed away 3 years ago, so my cousin is walking me down the aisle. My family insisted that it be someone from my side of the family to represent my father. I could'nt be happier about it :0)

I'm actually having my sister walk me down the aisle because our parents died when I was 15 and 24 respectively.

I couldn't think of anyone else that could help me in my transition between families...

I had dad walked with me, and never heard that walked with brother, but sounds great. And my cousin sister had my uncle walked down the aisle because her dad went away.

My MOH will have her younger brother walk her down the aisle. She's not close with either of her parents and her and her brother have helped raise each other and their 7 other siblings

My dad is walking be down. But if you would have asked me that question 9-10yrs ago I'd have said my grandpa because my dad and I didn't have that kind of relationship then.

However, my little sister had our brother (older) walk her down the isle. We saw nothing wrong with it. Instead of him saying, "her mother and I do" when the preacher asked 'who gives this woman' all 3 of us (2 brothers and myself) spoke up and said 'we do'. It was sweet Smiley smile

I'm 16 years older than my brother, who is my only sibling. He is now 15 as well, he will be 16 when he walks me down the aisle. My grandpa was like a father to me but passed in 1991, and I was off and on with my dad most of my life. For the past several years he's really changed, so he and my brother are going to both walk me down the aisle. I'm plugging my dad in there more so it doesn't hurt his feelings, but in my heart my brother is the only "man" to have me to be able to truly give me away. My brother is so excited to give me away, and he really understands and appreciates what that means.

My Father passed away 3 yrs ago. I had decided to let a childhood guy friend of mine walk me down the aisle, but my FH said he thought if would be really nice if we asked my little brother. (I had previously decided against it because I thought he was too young, he'll be 14 by the wedding date) After some discussion, I decided to ask him and even though he's a kid, he seems really honored to be 'doing the job of our Dad', well, at least as excited as a 14yo can be in a 'mushy' situation, lol!

Ask whomever you feel most comfortable with, but I think using your little bro is sweet!.

Best of luck to you guys and congrats! <3

My mother divorced my dad when I was 2 and he passed away when I was 10. He never would have walked me down the aisle. My older brother (by two years) is walking me down the aisle. He's actually very excited about it!
