Which is worse- dry weddings or hay bale seating?

sara, on March 18, 2016 at 10:13 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 84

I'm bored. Every few days there will be a post here about dry weddings and people jump on to exclaim that they HAVE to have something alcoholic, it's rude, blah blah-but no one ever asks about their stupid hay bale seating plan.

Hay bales are not comfortable. They are especially horrid if you have ANY guests with any mobility or chronic pain issues. Making people stand around while you have a 20-30 minute ceremony on a beach or in the woods is unfair too.

So if you went to a wedding, would you be more ticked off if there weren't any actual seats or if all of the drinks were non-alcoholic?

I would be more annoyed at a dry wedding. I also don't have mobility issues though

I would be more upset about no alcohol but that says more about my age and ability to stand for long periods of timeSmiley winking

I'd be more upset about no alcohol.

Eta: I feel like it sounds like we all have a problem lmao but seriously I could stand (no pun intended) no seating for a little while...... Because then we could all drink and talk about why the hell weren't there any seats for the ceremony?!?!

Dry wedding. Although the one I went to, we brought alcohol in water bottles and made our drinks more fun

I wouldn't want to sit on hay bale though. Itchy. But it's a shorter time period

At least if there was alcohol I could drink away the pain of a hay bale. Smiley smile

I don't drink, so I am fine with dry weddings-- I think the hay bale would be much worse!

The only wedding I ever attended with hay bale seating used very solid bales with blankets over them. So they were not uncomfortable. As someone with allergies I wouldn't want to sit directly on the hay though. I still say a dry wedding is way worse. Alcohol cures everything.

I think the dry wedding would be worse. While a hay bale isn't comfortable on its own, some people choose to cover them with a blanket to help with that. Also I'm not a big drinker and alcohol is expensive so I can see why people opt for a dry wedding . However alcohol does help to loosen people up and get the party going.

I would sit on a hay bale all night and eat my dinner there if the hosts made sure I could have a vodka tonic in each hand the whole time

A dry wedding wouldn't bother me one bit, but hay bale seating would get me frustrated. Not only are they inconvenient for any guests with mobility issues and chronic pain, but those with allergies wouldn't be able to enjoy any part of the wedding--whether there was alcohol or not! I did not realize people actually used hay bales as seating... People make too big a deal of alcohol at weddings. It's not a necessity. Especially if there are guests who are infamous for their drunken antics. No alcohol=no barf to clean up, no one is hungover, no embarrassing drunken toasts, no nasty hookups in the bathrooms, no creepy handsy distant relatives, no issues with the venue about rowdy guests, everyone actually remembers your wedding... Although you might have fewer people dancing, that's the only downside I can think of.

I am young middle aged- but definitely a bit creaky. And I am already likely wearing spanx and real shoes vs. my standard flip flops in an effort to look nice, so I need a seat. I always feel bad for folks in their 50's and older when I see them somewhere with horrible seating, because I figure they are even more uncomfortable than myself.

I love the idea that booze would make the discomfort go away- but I can't drink when I take my pain meds Smiley smile At least once a month I'll think, 'Hey, I didn't take anything today-I can totally make myself a drink, yeah!"

Definitely dry wedding is worse! I can last 20 minutes sitting on a hay bale or standing but it's worse to attend a 5 hour reception with only lemonade to drink Smiley smile

If you have a hay bale wedding you damn sure better be providing me alcohol! Also, I've never been to a dry wedding.... I know id probably be bored because I can't get comfortable around 75+ plus people without a little liquid courage.
