Which is worse- dry weddings or hay bale seating?

I'm bored. Every few days there will be a post here about dry weddings and people jump on to exclaim that they HAVE to have something alcoholic, it's rude, blah blah-but no one ever asks about their stupid hay bale seating plan. Hay bales are not comfortable. They are especially horrid if you have ANY guests with any mobility or chronic pain issues. Making people stand around while you have a 20-30 minute ceremony on a beach or in the woods is unfair too.

So if you went to a wedding, would you be more ticked off if there weren't any actual seats or if all of the drinks were non-alcoholic?

@Amberrose I'm glad you said that because I was thinking if you have a flask or two, is any wedding really dry? hahaha

Oh god. Well, sitting on hale bales gives me hives. Dry weddings just bore me to death. So I will reluctantly say the hale bales, though I'd rather just never have to be present at either mess of an event.

Guest comfort for the ceremony is so important, and hay bales just... completely ignores that in favor of some pinteresty "cute" bs. I had my heart set on a beach ceremony, but when it came down to it I realized that even with chairs set up, some older members of FH and my's families would have difficulty walking in the soft sand and over the dunes. So we went with a soundfront venue that is much more accessible.

@Niki we had a similar dilemma... I wanted to get married outside at a golf course that sits atop a hill overlooking the entire city but realistically, no older guest would have been able to sit out there without serious accommodation. So we chose a much more comfortable environment to celebrate.

I have chronic pain. A dry wedding is the WORST. I carry a flask but still. I've only ever seen hay bales with a covering like a blanket or quilt. Really not much different then a bench. Unless you are allergic to hay. ETA I'm drunk and grammar is hard.

I grew up with horses and gay. Alcohol can fix so many problems. Hay bales being one of them

I'd be most upset about self catered. Umm no I need food that won't kill me to soak up the boooooze

I've been to both. The dry hay bales were FAR worse.

I'd be fine with a dry wedding. A wedding with just beer and wine might as well be dry anyway, as far as I'm concerned, because I don't like either.

As for the hay bales, I'd be okay with them if they were covered. Otherwise, they tend to be itchy.

Then again, I'm pretty low key about weddings. We went to one where there was registry information in the invitation, a cash bar, and a dollar dance at the reception. Yes, I recognized all of the violations of etiquette. But they were people we cared about, so we were happy to be there to celebrate with them.

Right now, the dry wedding would be worse. I work retail so I stand ALL DAY LONG, so having anything to sit on is exciting in my book. I'm having major knee surgery in a month though, so my answer might change.

Dry wedding all the way. One of my best friends used hay bales and no one (even older ones) had any issues sitting on them.

I am allergic to hay, but she had it covered, I wore pants, and the ceremony was like 15 minutes. So it was fine!

Dry wedding. Think I could handle the hay bales if alcohol was involved! We went to one of my FH's groomsmen's weddings in Indiana, they gave us PBR before and we were on hay bales for the ceremony...in fact here's a picture.

Dry wedding for sure. I can handle a hay bale, plus a few drinks in me and I probably wouldn't even notice it anymore. (Assuming real chairs weren't brought in for the reception.)
