When is it ok to nag people?

Annie Adams, on March 31, 2013 at 3:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

I want so badly to start asking people who havent RSVPed yet if they're coming or not. I just want t a head count NOW. lol

Well this is what our timeline looks like right now....

February 15th - Invites sent

March 1st - Today

April 13th - the RSVP deadline

April 19th - the date we need a final headcount for the venue.

April 27th - the WEDDING

Is it really terrible to bug/nag/threaten people with two weeks out?

You can start contacting people after the RSVP date. Sometimes it is better to wait a couple days after the RSVP date because people will often put them in the mail on the date of the deadline.

I'm a big advocate for having someone else do the contacting. Example: Your mom for your family. FMIL for your FH's family. Sometimes people having trouble saying "No, we aren't coming" directly to the bride and groom. So when the B&G call them, they say yes, because they don't want to hurt feelings, and then don't show up on the day of. I always think its better for a 3rd party to get the confirmation from the last minute stragglers.

Agree with Ann. You need to wait until after the deadline.

Yes. It's as if your CC company called you 2 weeks before the bill is due to nag you about why you haven't paid it. You set the deadline, YOU need to stick with it first :-)

How many people did you invite? How many RSVP's do you have back. How many are yes/no?

With a recent shower I noticed all those who did not RSVP at all did not come. A couple who RSVP yes did not come. One was sick.

I think people think they need to RSVP only if they are coming.

MJ RSVPing for a shower is different than for a wedding. Not that it is any less rude to not respond to a shower invite, but it is way more common for someone to not respond to a shower than to a wedding.

Also you can't just assume that no RSVP means "no." We had 2 RSVP cards that got lost in the mail. Those guests had responded yes. If we would have assumed that no card meant they weren't coming, we would have been extremely embarrassed when they showed up at the wedding and we would have no place for them. The USPS is not perfect and stuff happens. Sometimes guests don't even get their invites. You should never assume when it comes to RSVPs.

Yep, you wait til after the deadline..once I had someone send me a text with over a week before the deadline..If brides want a headcount earlier, they should make the deadline earlier..we made our deadline a month before the caterer needed the final headcount.

I agree to wait after the deadline.. I also had a bride text me weeks before the deadline and thought it was really overbearing. (I totally understand being impatient though)

Mrs O. I agree with the RSVP's to showers. I know a bride who got no RSVP back for her reception. They had plenty of guests show up.

I sent mine 2/25 but had issues with the post office so I started "nagging" almost from the start just to verify that people had received their invitations since some were damaged. Deadline is 4/5 because we had a second wave of friends and coworkers we wanted to invite if OOT'ers said no and I've ready sent that out.

People always tease me for being the first to RSVP always. So we said we were going to give out a prize to the first to RSVP. It was the same people who tease me about it.

We have one gorgeous letterpress invitation sitting on our coffee table. I'm waiting to send it 2 days before it's due. My H's schedule is pretty unstable, and I would much rather tell them for sure the last day possible, then make a phone call 5 days before the wedding because we can't make it.
