When does the bar close at your wedding...if at all?

Labake , on March 7, 2012 at 10:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 33

We are getting married in the late afternoon, 5:30.

Cocktails are at 6

Reception 7-12

We are considering having the bar close at 11pm. I think at that point, we all will have had enough. It's time to start drinking water. What does everyone think?

That sounds good, 6 hours of drinking is a lot..We had our reception from 5-10; the bar was closed during dinner from 6-7 then reopened at 7. This was good since everyone is seated anyways and busy eating so wouldn't be grabbing as many drinks..is your reception at a hotel or does everyone have to drive back? if driving, hopefully people are DD, but I'd say closing at 11 is fine.

I'm paying for a shuttle and we are supplying our own beer and wine. the venue is a house rental so no real end time but I think we are kicking the off site guests out at midnight so we aren't paying for a shuttle all night. Soo either midnight or when the beer/ wine runs out.

@ crystal S, our venue doesn't care. As long as we keep writing the checks...

Spliting the hours? That's a great idea. I should talk to the venue about that. The worst they can say is no.

@ Ab Z no one has to drive. That's no fun Smiley smile. It's a small resort out in the country.

We had the EXACT same schedule. Our bar closed at about 11:15, but we had our last dance at 11:30 so that people could clean up. We didn't worry at all about people drinking water because a) we also had a shuttle to the hotel, and b) people who were too drunk to drive at 11 were also too drunk to drive at 12.

We haven't thought about that yet... We will probably close it around 11-1130 since we have the venue rented out til midnight. And luckily we don't have to worry about many, if any, people driving drunk. Our reception is at a hotel and most of the guests will be getting rooms there or at one of the 50 other hotels along the boardwalk.

Yeah knowing our crowd, people will have mimosas with breakfast. Cocktails/bloody mary's with lunch. Then come to the wedding and drink. I think 11pm is enough.

@yardie girl. You know time is money. I dislike wasting money. Plus it’ll probably take forever to get everyone organized for the sendoff.

Our reception is: Cocktails-5:30-6:30, Dinner at 6:30 with an open bar during cocktail hour, probably close it down for 1/2 or so of dinner and then open it up again after dinner until 1 AM. We have the DJ until 2AM, so last call will be about 1AM. We have a shuttle for one hotel, plus are looking at getting taxis for others.

I think our venue shut down the alcohol an hour before.

Our open bar will close 1 hr before the end our reception. We want to make sure everyone is safe to drive before it is over

We had a DW and everyone stayed the same place. The bar never closed. People were hitting the bloody marys when they woke for breakfast.

    Cate's is a 5 hour open bar.

Our bar opens right after the ceremony at 5, then its open all through dinner and dancing up till the end of the night at 1am! party time lol! Its a cash bar though, only the wine on the tables is free. This is pretty standard for weddings in my area.
