When does the bar close at your wedding...if at all?

We are getting married in the late afternoon, 5:30. Cocktails are at 6 Reception 7-12 We are considering having the bar close at 11pm. I think at that point, we all will have had enough. It's time to start drinking water. What does everyone think?

I am so glad for this post. My venue closes the bar an hour before the reception is over. Ours ends at 11, so the bar will close at 10. You can keep it open for an extra $3 per person that hour and an extra $50 for the bartender. $350 for one hour of drinking is so not worth it, but I was worried our guests might not be happy about it. I am glad that this is actually a normal thing!

My reception ends at 11, and we will be doing "last call" at 10. We are having a four hour reception and you will only have 3 hours of drinking, but me and FH aren't huge drinkers and neither are most of our friends so I think it will be fine!

We're having mimosas as guest enter, a sort of mingling time (in a ballroom) , then the ceremony, champagne toast at the crack of "I do" , cocktail hour open bar, closed during lunch, then its on for 3 hrs

I'm thinking we're going to go straight from reception to afterparty!

Unless I'm too tired, which is definitely a possibility!

5:30pm-2:30am, the bar is open, come on in!

(The party goes until 4am but 2:30 might be an appropriate time to switch to Vitamin Water and Red Bull. lol.)

@Labake, I love that stuff when I'm hiking, or after several hours of drinking. It doesn't give me heartburn like Gaterade or Powerade, those are way too syrupy for me. Also it's really good with vodka IMO. Although that would kind of defeat the purpose at that point in the night. Smiley smile

Ours never did close. We figured our guests had enough sense to have a designated driver.
