When did you announce your engagement?

the Grooms, on March 19, 2017 at 2:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 42

Only a few family members and close friends know of our engagement. My plan is to announce this coming up May with an engagement party to follow. Is a year out too early for an engagement party? What has everyone else done or plan to do?

We announced not even 30 minutes after it happened haha! FH mom took a photo as it happened so we posted for everyone else to see. As for the party, I'm not sure. I didn't one because I just didn't want one

We have told close family so far. Once they all know we will officially announce on social media. You do not throw your own engagement party. If someone offers then you have one.

We announced right away and didn't have an engagement party but did go out for some celebratory drinks with some friends that night. I think you should announce whenever it's right for the 2 of you

We told in person or called close family and friends, and then we changed the Facebook status 2 or 3 days after that. How long have you been engaged?

That sounds like a good plan to me.

You can throw your own engagement party, it just depends what kind of party it is. In my circle, people have them as an announcement, which it seems like you would be doing. Which is totally fine to throw on your own.

We were going to do the same thing, but realized we wouldn't be able to make it home and have the time (FH is military), so just called close family and friends within the next couple days, and then posted it about a week later.

We have been planning the wedding since June 2016, but I did 7 days of love this year for Valentine's day and proposed on the 7th day.

I think it's fine to have a party to announce your engagement, i.e., it would not come across as a gift grab because no one actually knows that you're engaged

We announced it to my parents and his parents the same day he proposed on 11/20/17.

And then announced it to his family and mine (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) on Thanksgiving dinner. (:

We visited FMIL and called all the other parents and siblings the day he proposed, then we called and texted extended family and close friends the following day. After we had reached everyone that we wanted to notify personally, we changed our relationship status on Facebook. I think we did it all within a 24 hour period.

His Aunt and Uncle are visiting in April, we want to tell them in person. Then we will probably announce on Facebook shortly after the visit. I just wasn't for sure the timing of the engagement party.

Most of my family were in attendance of the proposal so we announced it the the rest of the family right after.

We announced a week after the engagement. FH wanted to tell his parents and brother first before putting anything on social media or to friends. My family already knew.

I think you can announce whenever you guys want! You already told your families, so it's really up to you!

We called our parents then grandparents and aunts and uncles and best friends first, then posted on social media a few hours later.

We got engaged on a Friday and called VIPs right away( my parents, his parents, best friends, etc). We didn't put it on social media until Monday; I later found out this was because a friend of FHs was also proposing that same weekend and the two guys agreed that they wouldn't post anything just in case the other hadn't proposed yet because they didn't want to cause any conflict with the other couple (if that makes any sense to you).

My FH announced on social media the next day. We however have been very quiet on the wedding so ppl don't invite themselves

We announced it to social media about 2 weeks after it happened bc I wanted to wait until I had my ring back (the ring didn't fit when he proposed) we only told very close family a few days after it happened.
