When did you announce your engagement?

the Grooms, on March 19, 2017 at 2:50 PM

Only a few family members and close friends know of our engagement. My plan is to announce this coming up May with an engagement party to follow. Is a year out too early for an engagement party? What has everyone else done or plan to do?

I called the important people almost immediately and once that was done (about a week later) we announced on social media.

Family and our closest friends found out right after the proposal, and once all of our family knew, we announced on social media later that day. Didn't see a point in making some grand announcement. Also, if someone -offers- to throw you an engagement party, a year out is fine. Most people have engagement parties pretty close to when the engagement happened. FH and I got engaged last August and my parents hosted an engagement party for us in October.

We told family and friends pretty quickly. No engagement party for us. We just didn't see the need for one and no one offered haha

We called our parents/grandparents pretty much right after it happened. After all of our close family knew we posted it online to share with friends and other family members. We're not having an engagement party but from what I've seen they're typically shortly after the engagement so a year out would be fine.

@ Penny, If I had an engagement ring, I would want my nails done for the pic too!

We told my parents my the next morning because we were having brunch with them, we saw his parents a few weeks later and told them. Once we had told both sets of parents in person we made it social media "official" but beyond that made no announcements.

We told our close family and friends, then posted an announcement on social media, all the same day we got engaged

We drove straight to my mom's house after it happened and then his parents. I called my dad. I was all for not announcing on social media but he really wanted to so we did a few days later.

Hi! We wanted to tell our close friends and families before posting anything via social media, so we called and arranged to see in person everyone over the following 2 weeks or so, and officially announced to everyone else after that.

Don't worry about the engagement party being so early; our engagement party was in November 2015, and the wedding is august 2017!

We got engaged on a Monday and told all of our family on that Thursday which fell on a holiday. We then made it "Facebook official" after we knew all the VIPs knew.

We decided on getting married last May. We began telling family, then our closest friends who would be in our bridal party and then other close friends. We didn't officially announce it to anyone other than who we want at the wedding until he officially proposed to me which was this month on the fifth.

Several folks already knew about my fiance's plan to propose, since it was a bit of a team effort. They did an amazing job of keeping the secret. My boss even knew, so there was no way to go back to work that Monday and not say anything because it would have been torture for her Smiley winking So my parents, sister, and a few close friends were waiting by the phone for me to call that night. Once we let our closest family/friends know, we let it loose on Facebook the next night.

We told roughly 10 people (mix of family/friends) the same day. Over time, I told a few more people. But there are tons of people that do not know we are getting married because we didn't put it on FB, and do not plan to. We'll change our relationship status the day we get married.

A year out is fine for an e-party, but usually they're done right after you're engaged. But since a lot of your peeps don't know, it's probably okay.

We announced the day after. I waited until I could call my mom and let her know before we posted anything to social media. As for an engagement party, we're probably just going to have a little bbq with family and the bridal party. I don't think it's a bad thing to throw your own engagement party Smiley smile

We announced it pretty much right away, which was kind of a mistake because we'd also just had a baby (FH proposed right there in the hospital, because nothing says romance like lime jello and an episiotomy). So it kind of went like this:

Everyone: Oh, he's so cute! Let me hold him!

Us: And we're also getting married!!!

Everyone: Yeh, that's nice... OH HE BLINKED!!!!
