I frankly don't want my hubbie under my gown in front of our family and friends fetching for my garter with his mouth. Like Whoa! !

We aren't doing one. But we aren't considered traditional. Also no bouquet toss for us

Skipping this for sure! And I actually regret doing it at my first wedding because the guy who caught the garter was a +one who we didn't know and then he went to put it on my friend's leg, all creepy-like, and she said "who is this guy?" and my ex and I were looking at each other wondering the same thing.

It's funny now, but also disturbing.

We didn't do it. No one cared. No one missed it. I don't think "people expect it" is true at all. If they are dancing and having fun, they won't even notice that it was skipped. Not one person asked me about it.

I'm not a fan, I'll be skipping it unless my better half REALLY wants it. He's pretty shy though, so I'm not worried. Smiley smile

It has gross origins (representing the bride's hymen, was my understanding) but so do MANY wedding traditions. Some people find it icky, so should skip it. That said, we did one and got a terrific picture of my older brother (26) leaning over my baby brother's (13) shoulder to snag the garter out of his hand.

Personally I keep telling my FH I don't want to do this... but it's something we haven't decided ... just so awkward having your family watching lol

Tacky and outdated! I agree with you. Just skip it. It really is a weird tradition.

My DJ came up with a hilarious alternative to this. My (now) DH had to dance for the right to take it off. Kind of like a dance off. I got to say if it was good enough or not. I made him dance three times ...first time alone, second with the best man and third with the rest of his groomsmen. Everyone loved it!

ETA: the DJ had me choose - hands only while taking off the garter or not...I said hands only.

The garter toss screams 1985 to me. No offence to anyone doing it, but I would skip it.

We aren't doing that or the bouquet toss, don't want to put what few single friends we have on parade.

I have no problem being an exhibitionist but we're not doing the garter toss. It's just dated and very 80's IMO. People see it in wedding movies and think it has to happen--it doesn't. But you can still wear a garter if you want.

ETA: ha @Jacks I wrote my post before I read yours. YASSS!

Doing it but we're not tossing it. Ithink it's fun and sexy and it's the only time we can be like that without it being too unclassy! Also not tossing a bouquet. ETA: he'll just grab it and dance around with it for a minute and then put it down on a table or something and move on.

We are totally doing it... it's only gross if you wake it seem dirty. Smiley smile I think its all a fun tradition!!! Why place these labels on everything?? If you want to do it, do it. if not, don't, but don't call it gross and make others feel uncomfortable. I think it's fun, if you're into having a good time and keeping it traditional. Smiley smile

We both find it gross. We won't be doing it or the bouquet toss. I'm wearing a garter for him to go after later, lol.
