I frankly don't want my hubbie under my gown in front of our family and friends fetching for my garter with his mouth. Like Whoa! !

We're doing it but it won't be vulgar. It can be fun instead of trashy, but everything isn't for everybody. Do what makes you comfortable, it's your day.

I think it dated and tacky. And the way many people do it today is very gross and embarrassing to watch, nevermind being the bride who has to endure it.

I feel the same way about the garter and bouquet toss....outdated, uninteresting and awkward / patronizing. I rarely see it anymore, thankfully.

I really don't want to do that and the bouquet toss either so I don't put two people in an awkward situation. My bridesmaids yesterday are trying to convince me to still do it but I'm not sure still if I want to do it or not. It's a toss up but it's your day if you don't want to have the garter toss at your wedding you don't have to do it in front of your guests.

I always wanted to do this because I felt it was just a tradition because the 3 weddings I went to this was done. But now with the guest list we have come up with there is very few single people!

My personal take is it can be fun and tasteful with just a wink of silly- which it's supposed to be! The tradition comes from a piece of the bridal clothing being seen as good luck. So if someone went home with that "piece" or swatch, great! If FH and I do this, I will wear the toss one no higher than my knee and he will just reach and get. No teeth, no putting his head under the dress as I've seen. Just take a knee, get it, move on. It should take 30 seconds or less. I think taking it off by making a spectacle is where you really make everyone uncomfortable. Just reaching and getting- well...I personally don't see offense to that.

I love the idea of having it on for tradition's sake and a little something something, but my fiancé is just going to have to find it privately Smiley winking

We skipped the garter retrieval/toss and bouquet toss. DH has always hated the garter toss and never participated. Honestly, I think they are becoming outdated. We go to several weddings a year and I haven't been to a wedding that had that in YEARS. Like more than 5 years.

I find it really weird to do in front of your grandparents, children, etc. kind of inappropriate in my opinion.

Just keep the garter closer to your foot! HaHa! I hadn't thought about it but I don't want anything perverted either!! Save that for later. HaHa!

Skipping it. I think it's so awkward for my FH to be up my dress in front of all my guests.

Also, as someone who accidentally and very unintentionally caught the bouquet at a wedding and had to have some old guy put the garter on my leg, I don't want my friends to go through the same.

I think it's gross. In fact, I went to one last night where the already plastered groom started stripping (waving bow tie around his head, started sliding belt off) before he went garter hunting. It really put a bad taste in my mouth...from the vomit.

I wouldn't judge a couple who chooses to do this. FH and I both hate these traditions so we will not be including these activities. If you are going to do it, please do not insist or force guests to participate. Would you want to be called out to come display your single-ness in front of a bunch people? If someone wants to head to the bathroom or bar to skip it: let them FFS!!!

This was actually the first thing I really had to put my foot down with FMIL about. She went into a whole guilt trip about how FSIL didn't do it at her wedding, and it ruined the whole wedding - well, I told her to be prepared for an awful wedding then because there was no way I was going to do it.

Not only do I hate it, but there aren't really any singles at the wedding... so nothing like calling out the 2 single people and making them feel awkward! No thank you!
