What type of veil for outdoor wedding?

Mrs.Britt, on April 17, 2010 at 8:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

Should I do a veil? If so what type? Birdcage? Short? Long? Just a hair piece? I do not care for many veils. I like the long lace ones and I like birdcage but some of the shorter ones... I dont know I just dont love them.

I recommend short veils for outdoor weddings because I see them get blown around all the time and I feel like a short one or just a hairpiece would work better.

I'm going to say the exact opposite of Cathasach Smiley smile

I like longer veils for outdoor weddings because they look so pretty billowing about in a breeze. The shorter ones outdoors could blow too much and get annoying. Longer veils will have a little more weight to them and be less likely to whip you in the face... and if a stronger wind does pick up, longer veils are easier to hold onto.

I don't know Jessy... the last person I knew that had a long veil at her gazeebo wedding got it caught on the wood and ruined her veil before the ceremony was over. Just something to think about. If it's on a beach you're probably fine but if there's trees or a deck or something else involved it's a potential problem.

True! You wouldn't want a really long veil in an area where it could get snagged easily. I think that would depend on the venue.

I like longer veils personally. I think it depends the look you want. Maybe try a birdcage veil. They look great and they won't blow away.

Your dress is so elegant so i think for outside you should just do a silk flower with a jewel in it or hair ribbon !I found these on etsy.com they are a little pricey but you can search for others that are less expensive!

If you want to go with a long veil I read somewhere that a bride suggested adding small fishing weights to the ends of the veil to give it a little bit of weight to prevent it from flying away

Go with an elbow length which would give you length without the hassle of the longer veil. They are really pretty and will not hide your elegant dress.

I love the look of longer veils, but the getting caught on things seems to be a real issue. I got a fingertip length one, since it fits with my dress. I felt like it was long enough to not cut me in half, but short enough to be very manageable.

Personally, I'm not a fan of birdcage veils and the dress seems less like the style it would work for.

Not wearing a veil seems pretty popular now though, so if you don't find one you love, don't wear one. The dress is so stunning, that a simple head accessory would look good. Beautiful headbands are also popular, and I've seen many great ones.

I am having an outdoor weddnig in a park and I personally am not wanting to wear a veil. I just don't like the look of them and I made a hair clip of an orchid to wear in memory of my gma (gpa flew her in orchids for their wedding...tear :-) ) so that's what I'm wearing instead!

I definitely think no veil with an outdoor wedding. Or a birdcage veil. I remember your dress and Siera is right, it is gorgeous by itself, I would do flowers or a hair clip and not hide that gorgeous dress.

How are you wearing your hair? I think with wind as a factor, that might determine the kind of veil I would suggest.

Im doing a long veil for my outdoor wedding. It will be attached just under my updo at the back of my crown and drape down my dress to about my knees.

I suggest, if you can, going to a dress store and putting on the dress (or something similar) and trying different looks.

It all depends on how you are going to wear your hair.

I have no clue how I am going to wear my hair yet. My mom wants me to wear it down and get extensions so I can cover "all my tattoos" but I want to wear it up in a vintage inspired style. @SIERAMISS I LOVE the first one you posted from Etsy but I couldnt find it on the site do you have a link? I also like the idea of a birdcage veil but I dont know how it would look on me so I guess I will just try some stuff out when my dress comes in. The back of my dress is the only reason I bought it so I dont really wanna cover it. Its sooo pretty!
