What kind of whiskey do you like...

AG13, on December 21, 2015 at 1:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

In your coke? We will be stocking our own bar and I am doing 2 different liquor drinks but I do NOT drink whiskey so I have no idea on this one. Also would like to be cost friendly (not bottom shelf but not like 80 bucks a bottle). Thanks guys Smiley smile

If you're mixing it with coke, just do jack.

If you want some good whiskey suggestions that should not be mixed with soda ever, let me know!

@m, enlighten me. Please. I love whiskey and I'm always looking for new brands to try.

@AG13 I agree. Jack would be a good choice for coke.

Jack Daniels is proof that God wants everyone to have a friend.

ETA: If you are drinking straight, I love Knob Creek (I think it's a bourbon though, but tasty)

I agree with m. Good whiskey is too good to be mixed with coke!

But also Crown Royal is great and it's pretty comparable price-wise to Jack Daniels (at least here, but I'm in Ontario so I dunno whether that holds true in the US as well). I like it a lot better than Jack.

Does the type of jack matter?

Gentlemen Jack is nice, but honestly since you're mixing I would just go standard black label JD.

ETA: RebeccaHope also suggested a tasty JD, the honey is great; and the new cinnamon one is good too - way better than Fireball (there I said it).

DH drinks only Bulleit. I like the following: Stranahan's, Hudson Baby Bourbon, Pappy Van Winkle, George T. Stagg. They are not all cheap, ha.

Tennessee Honey is good but it can be too sweet for some. Regular Jack may mix better with Coke since the coke itself is already sweet.

    I also enjoy Jack.

But I've wanted to start drinking whiskey like an adult and not like a Miranda Lambert wannabe. So m, let's talk about whiskey I can drink straight.

Also, if any of you have a decanter, do you put good liquor in it, or the cheaper stuff and pretend like it's fancy? Just busted out the decanter we got for our wedding, not sure what to put in it.

Thanks @m. DH wouldn't let me buy him anything for Christmas but he's not going to say no to whiskey!

FH loves his Macallan 18, straight. It's pricy though but it's his sipping whisky.

Bulleit is the best value delicious whiskey out there. But if you're mixing with coke, it doesn't matter what you get. Spending over $15-20 a bottle to mix with coke is like putting Veuve Cliquot in a mimosa. Now somebody bring me a cocktail.

I love Angel's Envy straight. If you don't want to spend as much on Jack, try Evan Williams. It's a lower price point and slightly lower quality, but as long as it's mixed, it's okay.

Jameson is my favorite too, but I prefer to mix it with ginger ale or sprite. Jack or Crown and coke tend to be crowd pleasers for any occasion.

I'm not a big straight whiskey drinker, but I recently bought a bottle of Jameson Caskmates and that's one that I can actually drink. I wouldn't mix that with coke though.

Here's a small corner of my home bar to drool over. I've got almost everything @m named! Woodford Reserve is my personal favorite, my go-to.
