We have to have the food catered from the venue, as they do not allow any outside food. Their plated meals begin at $130pp and their buffet meals begin at $140pp. Hors d'oeuvres are $7 per piece. I am trying to be creative and make my own menu to provide to the chef and see what pricing he will come back with. So far that has been the cheaper route.

We are having a cheese/cracker/meat platter as well as veggie and fruit platters during the cocktail hour. They are running us about $100-$150 total.

We opted for a buffet. Our caterer focuses on farm to table meals so we are having seasonal veggies, cheddar mashed potatoes, roasted turkey with squash and cranberry apple chutney and Braised beef tips with gravy veggies and pasta. Our entrees run around $22-$28pp.

    Recommendations for a vegetarian option??

Those prices are beyond high. I'm paying for a buffet style with any kind of food. Mexican food, 3 types of salads, 3 kinds of meats, a desert table, 4 kinds of bread, 2 kinds of rices, 2 kinds of potatoes, veggies, and some colombian snacks too, and also the snacks for the cocktail hour for 1200.

7 per piece? thats nuts! I've only heard of 7 per person. We haven't had our tasting yet, but we are thinking of doing

cocktail hour: artisan cheese board with fruit and cracker display, bacon wrapped scallops, peppered beef crostini with fondue drizzle, and mini grilled cheese and tomato soup

entrees: herb crusted sirloin with au gratin potatoes and carrots in a demi glaze, haddock with roasted potatoes and baby carrots, and a a vegetarian lasagna.

    ours is around $100 pp

Our cocktail hour food, plated salad, and gourmet pizza bar put us at about $30 per head. This does not include any drinks though because the bar is a consumption bar.

I'm feeling lucky now. Our caterer quoted us $16 pp for a 3 entrée buffet with salad, 2 sides, and bread. (Tea, coffee, lemonade, water) Extra $15 pp for Soda/beer/wine open bar for 4 hours.

We originally wanted southern comfort food but ehhh. I might want something fancier.

If we chose to have hors d'oeuvres it would have been $19 pp for 6 selections. Not per piece. Not sure why those were more expensive than the meal.

ETA: spelling was never my best subject

Ouch that's expensive! I'm in Orlando, FL and we're paying $32 per person. Our package offered more food then we cared for but oh well. That price includes linen, linen napkins, champagne glasses, tax, server costs and cake cutting.

Steak on a stick (sliced thin) with chimichurri sauce

    Southwest chicken purses

    Assorted quiche

    Main Course - buffet

    Bourbon glazed chicken breast

    Meat lasagna

    Rice pilaf

    Mixed veggies

    Cream corn

    Salad

    Rolls with butter

    fountain drinks and water

That's high for my area but it depends on where you are located. Ours is $20.50 per person for 2 entrees , 2 sides, salad and dinner rolls. Coffee and tea also in that price. Alcohol, venue and cake separate,

I don't have the exact menu yet - we'll do a tasting early 2017 & choose food items. But it's $160/pp. Our reception is renting out a full two-story French restaurant in New Haven, CT. Price is inclusive of food, drinks, venue, coordinator, full staff. So I know it sounds really high but that per person price includes the whole sha-bang.

I agree with Celia, about it being regional. It also can depend on your venue and who you may know.

My daughters wedding was at a local hotel. The GM, as well as many of the staff members, were very good friends of mine. I did NOT ask for any favors, but they gave us so many discounts. It was amazing and appreciated. What should have cost (food, bar, bartender, hotel rooms, additional food the day of while getting ready, etc) $10,000 came in at just over $4400.

We were very fortunate, to say the least.

This is a wonderful thread, I am going to keep following. I am just starting look at catering options and prices. I am noticing that our area is tending to be expensive but I know I will find something in my budget soon!
