What do you do with your guest book afterwards?

Anonymous, on June 29, 2011 at 8:55 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

I bought a guest book because I know you're supposed to have one but what the heck am I supposed to do with the thing. Yeah, everyone signed it ok big deal? I feel like its just more clutter. Is it supposed to have some sentimental meaning?

Everyone I know just stuck it in a box and never touched it again... Pretty sure that'ls what I'll do until I do spring cleaning and eventually throw it out... I don't even want to have one, but that's one battle I'm not going to try to win.

Usually people are supposed to put their name and address so that you can send "Thank you for coming" cards after. But if people don't put their address, it's just nice to know information. There really isnt much you can do with it afterwards but just see who actually showed up at your wedding. Nice to know information, but that's it.

That's the exact reason why I am having a photo sinature mat so we plan to hang it in our living room so that not only will we enjoy it, but our guests will also enjoy it as well if they visit.

My friend had one and she just has it away with her wedding momentos. We went another way and are doing the signature frame and hang it up in our home.

I am going to be making a "time capsule". In it I will be putting my garter, our cake serving set, one of our favors, my bouquet and FH's boutenierre (they are silk) and a couple other assorted things including our guestbook. This way, when our kids gets married, we will bring it out and they can either use something in it or just enjoy the memories. Maybe you can do something like that?

I just bought my frame signature mat at Michael's the other day for $6.99. I couldn't see spending $25+ on a beautiful guest book that would end up on the top shelf in my closet.

We've decided to forgo the traditional Guest Book and instead to a cardbox...

Everyone will get a peice of paper to write a little something for us - they'll place it in a locked box & on our 1 year anniversary we'll get to open it and read what everyone wrote. It makes the messages a little more special since no one will be able to read what someone already wrote & It will be something we'll look forward to doing on our very first anniversary. After we read them we'll probably end up placing our favorites in our wedding scrapbook - the rest will be thrown away.

You can leave it on your coffe table or something... That's why I'm getting a nice photo mat so I can hang it on the wall, much more useful than a little book

This is what we're doing instead of a traditional guest book. We will frame it and display it somewhere in our home.

@Maria - I've never put my address in a wedding guest book. If they knew how to contact me to send me an invitation, they'll know how to contact me to send a thank you.

We are looking for something a little untraditional for the guest book... there are some cute things on www.guestbookstore.com.

I was wondering the same thing. I guess I will make a wedding box or something and keep everything in there.

I am doing something VERY DIFFERENT!

I will have this board and people will have pieces of paper to put advice for a happy marriage and attach it to the board, then afterwards I plan to have the board framed in a shadow box frame and hang it in our home. At first I got it so FH wouldn't forget our anniversary, then I decided to let it do double duty.

We'll probably do a Quaker wedding certificate since we're technically legally married and all we got from the VA courthouse was a crappy .doc type of deal. It has our wedding vows and everyone in attendance signs it (very much like a ketubah....well...exactly like one lol). We're gonna have it framed and hang it in our home :-).

Being a military family, a guestbook would get lost throughout our moves. A big a- picture is a lot easier to keep track of :-)

Our guest book is a photo book with our E-pics. One page will be a picture and one page will be for the guest to sign. This way people can sign by their favorite picture of us! I'm going to use it as a coffee table book.

We had a guest book and FORGOT to put it out for people to sign. After the reception, we filled in the names of the guests we knew were there.

We did a coffee table book with our engagement pics as well. Just a note b/c I screwed up royally with mine. DO NOT use gel pens with photo books...they do not work! the writing in my book is mostly illegible because I wanted gel pens. But it's ok I was able to read most of it by really trying.
