What did you wear for your engagement shoot?

VivaLaVal, on September 4, 2013 at 11:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

We're getting our e-pics done on October 7th. I've been trying to get ideas on what to wear. We're getting them taken at an antique store, weird right? Also, I am limited to flats as FH is not that much taller than I am. Who knows if the weather will be cool enough (crazy Michigan weather) but I am planning on dark skinny jeans, flats, a long sleeve button up collared shirt with a light sweater over it and perhaps a suit coat over that for outfit #1. Outfit #2, I may just change from a suit coat to a casual jacket and wear a tank top with a long necklace. I obviously need some help!

Here is a link so that you can see all of the locations and props that we're able to use. Also, we're able to shoot inside, and outside.

What did you wear for your e-shoot, and how was the weather?

We're having our engagement photos done this upcoming weekend at a golf course. I'm expecting the weather to be fairly warm, so I'm planning on wearing a dress for outfit #1 and then changing in to dark jeans, flats and a nice shirt for outfit #2.

I wore a navy (which is one of our wedding colors) Cynthia Rowley dress and black heels. I went with something very classic because I don't want to look at the pictures in 20 years and think "what the hell was I thinking".

I wound up with two engagement shoots (it rained during one). First shoot, I did a bright pink dress with a jean jacket and knee-high boots for outfit 1 (we did a lot of shooting in the countryside and on gravel roads outside of town for this part) and dark jeans with a tank top, blazer and heels for outfit 2 (we did this downtown). For the second shoot, it was all in a strawberry patch, so I did a brown tee with jeans and a bright red scarf. (and then we changed into gym clothes and threw strawberries at each other and took photos of that too...)

Our photographer just advised to stay far far away from big, busy patterns, and try to go classic as much as you can -- obviously you want to look nice, but you also won't want to look back at them in 30 years and be all "WHAT WAS I THINKING?!" like we do with our parents and their bell bottoms and beehives.

ETA: Ha, Stephanie beat me to it, but kept it in for emphasis. Smiley smile

We took ours in the Dominican Republic last year, I wore a simple beachy white dress. FH wore khaki pants and white shirt..so in love with them!

So many choices! Looks like I need a shopping day! I wear a lot of jackets, tanks, cardigans, scarfs, etc. So I think dressing in what I wear almost everyday is appropriate. I just wanted something a little different. Maybe a dress, with tights and boots. I'm probably thinking about this too early. That's my problem lol.

That antique store is so cute! I agree with Paris, I love Modcloth. I say change as much as possible, that way you will add some additional visual interest. No need to only wear one outfit when the world is so full of cute clothes!

We did a themed ****s shoot. I changed twice, a sweet pink dress then a sexy black dress. FH was in the 3 piece suit, suspenders and fedora.

I wore three outfits, he had three. I wore a pretty teal dress with some ivory large embroidery on the bottom while he wore dress slacks and a grey shirt, the other outfit I wore a pink cami with a white cardigan, some great jewelry, and he had on jeans and a light blue button down, and then the last outfits he chose. I hated them, they photographed poorly. I wore jeans and a purple plaid shirt (a favorite of his), and he wore jeans and a "grey" button down. Problem is, his shirt had weird texture so it some photos it did this really bizarre visual effect. I hate those photos.

    Solid colors look best.

I've been having the same problem trying to figure out what we are going to wear. We are having our pictures taken on Sept 24. I know one outfit will probably be us in his favorite football team shirts, 2nd one might be jeans with a tank under a button down sweater (layered look) and 3rd one I might wear a summery dress and him in khaki shorts and polo. decisions, decisions!

We had a more casual outfit (both in jeans and a cute top) and then a dressier option (me in a dress and him in dress pants and a button down shirt)...enjoy, its so much fun!!!

We did three outfit changes -

No.1 - Dressy outfit: Me - Classy black & magenta dress with CL black booties; FH - Blue Sweater/Grey Slacks/Black Shoes. For this one we had the "And Sign" prop in red

No. 2 - "Rep Yo' City" outfit: Me - St. Louis Cardinals off-the-shoulder sweatshirt with kangroo pocket/jeans/red cowboy boots (I live in TX now); FH: Detroit Lions hoodies/jeans/white & grey tennis shoes.

No. 3 - "Fitness Fits" (we like to work out together): Me: Bright highlighter green long-sleeved Dri-Fit running shirt/black running leggings/highlighter green pink and grey tennis shoes; FH: black running shirt/black running pants/tennis - for this one we had props i.e. jump rope, running ladder

We had fun, but it was a long morning...started at 9am - ended around 1pm.

"Also, I am limited to flats as FH is not that much taller than I am."

Is there a rule saying he has to be taller than you-in-shoes? If you have heels you really love to wear, what's it matter?

We had a Fall engagement shoot so I work a ivory lace dress, a cardigan and my favorite boots with thick ivory sweater socks. I wanted something cute but somewhat casual and very 'me'.

Everyone sounds like they had their stuff together. How long before your shoot did you gals start thinking about your outfit?

@Mackenzie: Unless you are naturally taller than your SO, I see no reason to wear 6" heels because I love them. I don't mind flats, or equestrian style boots, but I am not a fan of a kitten heel. If I wear heels, they are 5" or 6" and I do not want to be 3" taller than him. It would look awkward in our photos.

We chose a photo we took spontaneously months beforehand in a parking lot with snowflakes in our hair because FH thought I looked adorable in ear muffs bundled up in a big jacket.

Point of the Story: just wear what you love!

We did a few changes as well. For the first two dresses I was barefoot and the third I had flats. FH is 3 inches taller than me and I prefer to be close to the ground anyway Smiley smile It sounds like what you have picked out will be adorable!

Our e-pics SHOULD be October 6th (a month from today...waiting on the okay from the photographer!)

Anyway, we are doing pictures at our football stadium and on the statehouse grounds. (the benefits of living in the capital city that is also home to the state's namesake school)

For the stadium, I'm wearing a black sweater dress, black wide belt, brown cowboy boots, and a garnet scarf. I will tell FH to wear a long sleeve button down that has garnet and black in it, and the gamecock emblem on the pocket with khakis.

For the statehouse, I'm wearing this emerald/jade sleeveless dress that has ruffles on the chest, a skinny black belt, and not too high (because FH and I are the same height) black patten leather peep toe heels. FH will probably wear a navy and green polo shirt and khakis.

We did ours in December. I wanted a winter e-pic shoot to contrast our summer wedding.

Since it was cooler I wore a white coat, with dark blue jeans and black boots. I changed the colour of my scarf from either a teal one to a red one. DH wore a plaid coat, dark blue jeans and black boots. His scarf was also plaid.

Also had a second outfit, but it was only us putting our hockey jerseys, Edmonton Oilers over top of our coats.
