What are your top/bottom 5 wedding priorities?

When I first started planning I got this book on how to have a wedding for $5k (our budget is $10k so I figured I would save double lol, not so much...). When I first started planning I got this book on how to have a wedding for $5k (our budget is $10k so I figured I would save double lol, not so much...). One of the first things the book had me do was list the 5 things that are most important to me for my wedding. This helped me put certain things in perspective and not concentrate so much on how much things cost, but how much it was worth to me. I threw in the bottom 5 just for fun :-)

Here's my top 5

1- Food & Alcohol!!

2- DJ

3- Pictures

4- Location(s) with character (no hotel ballrooms)

5- Decor

Bottom 5

1- Flowers

2- Cake

3- Invitations (they're just gonna throw them away anyway)

4- Favors (MOH and I are still going back and forth over this)

5- Videography (if we can afford it, great. If not, I really don't care that much)

What about you ladies? You'll be surprised how much perspective this simple list gives Smiley smile

I love this thread, how am i just seeing it now? lol

    Top:

    1. photog

    2. reception service (open bar, hotel for guest convenience)

    3. attire

    4. theme/overall look

5.Party vibe (so DJ; although I'm getting a cheap one but he's good from what I've heard others say; not trying to "sell" himself to guests so to speak lol..I don't need all those fancy lights, just an open bar will do the trick; and i knowing my guests, thats sufficient lol.

    Bottom:

    1. Invitations

    2. Favors (i may skip favors and add that 100 bucks towards a photo booth; my photog offers one for 400-not sure what that all involves tho; but i'll use a photo from that as my favor.)

    3. Cake (honestly whatever wedding i've been to the cake has never been a big deal, plus i don't really eat it lol)

    4. flowers

5.Linens ((i do care, but just not in my budget even with the Black Friday sale; would rather spend the money on something else; so saving 100 on favors, and like 250 on linens; well i'd be just 50 shy for my photo booth!!)

(Of course FH is always the most important thing)

My top five are things that I wasn't willing to compromise much on and I'm willing to pay to get what I want:

    Top Five:

    1. Officiant (had to have the one of my choice)

    2. Accommodating FH's elderly mother (picked locations to suit her)

    3. Photography

    4. Ceremony Music (must have the Hammond Organ played)

    5. Guest List (more of who is NOT invited than who is)

There are a lot in the middle that do matter but I'm willing to compromise about.

Bottom Five: Things I'm not having/doing because they don't matter

    1. Ceremony rituals like the unity candle (not doing it)

    2. Doing anything just because it's expected or someone else other than my FH. wants it. (I have a long list of requests that I've said no to.)

    3. Large wedding party (having only MOH & BM -no flower girl, no ring bearer, no other bridesmaids, etc.)

    4. Bouquet toss and garter toss (not doing it)

    5. Reception Music

    Great topic....

    Top Five:

    1. Theme/Venue....It had to be a biker themed wedding in the fall at our favorite B&B in Vermont

    2. Contents of the ceremony...We are hand writing everything including our path joining ceremony.

    3. Italian Food and Alcohol....I can't invite people to travel without providing them with a good meal and cocktails. Also, since we are of Italian descent, it had to be Italian.

    4. DJ....Music is pivotal in our ceremony and reception

    5. Decor/Tablescapes...It is important to our theme

    Bottom Five

    1. Cake....It had to be carrot cake and the design had to be very specific to our theme.

    2. Favors/Welcome Bags....Can't imagine throwing a DW without either of them.

    3. Attire....No biggie...while we are not doing tux and typical bridal gown, we still want to look nice

    4. Flowers for

    5. Photog....the FH does it on the side, so we are having his assistant...so, while it is a priority, it is last on the list because it is a given.

    Top 5

    1. Photographer- While it is killing the FH to pay the amount of money we are paying for him, we are going to be looking at these pictures for the rest of our lives.

    2. Cocktail Hour- Nothing annoys me more than standing around a reception hall hungry waiting for the bride and groom.

    3. Alcohol- I am pretty sure I am going to be thirsty that night.

    4. Attire- We wants something trendy, but not something we'll look back on and wonder "What were we thinking?"

    5. Venue- Wanted to have it at a hotel so OOT guest don't have to drive.

    Bottom Five

    1. Invites- People just look at them and throw them away.

    2. Cake- We both really dislike cake so I let my mom pick out the cake.

    3. Linens- I cannot remember the linens at any wedding I have ever been to.

    4. DJ- We went with the cheapest package. As long as he plays music all night, we don't care. We'll dance to anything. And we definitely don't need a light show.

    5. Favors- Not doing them; doing a donation instead.

    Oops. haha second try

    TOP 5:

    1. Location! It has to be magical.

2.Guest list--the people make the party.

    3. Vows--I'm not so into organized religion, and I'd like us to write our own. They're the most powerful part of the ceremony.

    4. Dress--and I already found it!

5.Photography--I have a terrible memory, and I want to record the day forever.

    BOTTOM 5:

    1. Bridesmaid's attire--I just want the right color. They can pick their own.

    2. Professionally-arranged centerpieces. I'll just pot flowers.

    3. Save-the-dates...I care about design, and therefore details, but c'mon, that's what invitations are for.

4.Hotel. We have an infant daughter, so as long as someone else is watching her for the night, we could stay in a cardboard box and it would still be sexy.

    5. Limo. My fiance has just finished rebuilding a '73 Cougar that even matches our color scheme. No limo for us!

I thought we were the only ones that didn't care about limos! My mother made it seem like I was walking down the aisle bucket nekkit when I told her we would probably use our car or rent an SUV and has pledged to pay for the cars *insert dramatic eye roll*

@OorahNik: Our getaway car was our minivan, driven by my son for part of the time and my daughter for the rest.

@OorahNik, our reception site is a 15-minute walk from the ceremony site. I mean, really, I don't want to be tromping down Clarendon Boulevard in a gown and heels, but I just can't justify such a ridiculous expense for a limo to take us such a short distance.

Lmao you'd probably get a lot of congrats @ Shannon.

Lol@ 2nd Bride. I was really just going to rent a nice car from Avis or whatever and call it a day but *shrugs* Mommy's word is law.
